I thought Will Atkinson was a decent footballer but probably in the minority to be fair. Better than what we had last season. He could put his foot on the ball and actually pass and move, seemed to have time on the ball but was unspectacular. Would fit in great with Clarke or anyone who could get forward a bit more.BH_Stag wrote:lifestags wrote:Good news that, Southend fans seem gutted he’s going, how long does it take a footballer to get up to scratch fitness wise these days? 2 week?
I normally take that logic on board, but Southend fans also rated Will Atkinson & Kevan Hurst who both left Southend to join us so I’ve lost a bit of faith in their opinion let’s hope McLaughlin is better than them! Coughlan clearly pursued him for a long time when there will be plenty of other options out there so he must really rate him.

He does not look very quick on the videos but can play on the right or left and likes a shot. He also likes a yellow card so will fit in with James Perch. He was Southend's 2nd highest rated player last season on Who Scored of players who played regularly with four assists. His defensive abilities are also rated as very strong.

Key passes, strong. Passing, weak. He just needs to make every pass A key pass. Easy.
Sounds like he'll be an asset, but excuse me.if I reserve judgement until I see him play.
It's a shame he didn't sign when we first had interest. Clearly he.was holding out for something better, and so missed all of pre-season.

I agree about Atkinson being a decent footballer, always thought he should have got more credit as at least he put a shift in.
