From Chelsea to Ipswich to Mansfield to Bolton - back to league 2 under hill and flitcroft (our of their control in fairness) he’s the reason he’s not doing well - mainly that he’s a tosspot.

Can't argue with any of that, but still better than anybody we have at Field Mill.

Tosspots everywhere, it seems!

He's the ultimate annoyance though. Imagine someone with the quality of Mellis and the workrate of Macca - now you'd have a player - sadly each player only possesses one.
In short that's why I don't like Mellis - he was easily better technically than anyone in our midfield, but would maybe turn up 1 in 5 games (maybe not that) - he's doing a job that most folk would love to do and yet seems hellbent on throwing it away.

Anyone who scores a hatful of goals will be sold, or wont renew their contract, any goalie that makes lots of saves will leave, same with a solid defence, and if midfielders get assists, teams higher up will be interested in them. So you have to make do with flawed players who might perform one week and not the next, that is why they are at Mansfield Town! It would be lovely to have Liams, Bobby's and Leroys of old coming through our youth academy now though, because we have a owner who doesn't need to sell unless the price is right, or the player is unhappy. But that seems like it was a once rarity occurrence, weird when we now put more money into the academy than back then!

It’s going to take a good few years before we start seeing high calibre youth players come through...we’re not even cat 3 yet and no youth player has really been in our setup longer than 3-4 years at the most. Remember we had to start from scratch. This is a long term prospect not something that happens over a 2-3 year period.

They never will come through if they are not given the opportunity.

And it's hard to blood youth players when we are trying to achieve promotion year after year
