Otis Khan just does not make enough impact on games at League 2 level. He can often completely disappear in games. He is a very expensive luxury player that we do not need and who has not justified his transfer fee and presumably big salary. I would not want to rely on him when the going gets tough. I can understand GC's decision.
Otis Khan has not been able to gain a regular starting place under three different managers. It tells you a lot. There are much more effective "playmakers" (or wide midfield/forward players) out there. It's up to GC to find one. Otis Khan has had his chance and come up well short of what is going to be required.
I wonder why this activity has happened so late? Has GC been waiting for the green light on other players?

Trust the manager. He is with the players all week and he is paid to sort the wheat from the chaff.Khan is a decent player but didn't do it for 90 minutes. The team next season will be unrecognisable.

I was a big Khan fan, rate him highly.
Makes you wonder if it’s an attitude problem as none of our last few managers have fancied him?

Khan, like others, has flattered to deceive. To use a popular analogy on here, ‘one swallow does not make a summer’. He has good games, changed games and been a delight to watch but not consistently. Dave took a punt on him and he started last season very brightly but faded, this season he has been more miss than hit. Despite, by GC’s admission that the squad is unfit, doing extra training of his own he did not spark. I wish the lad well in his endeavours it’s just that he has a good eighteen months to prove himself up to our expectations (last season and this) and has fallen away.
Enjoy it in Wales, Otis, just don’t let it be the graveyard of yet another possibly talented footballer. Also, by using public transport will you get from Mansfield in time to start on Saturday?

Whilst I agree he's not live up to his potential, he still has the best assists per minute ratio than any of our squad with three assists or more. Only James Clarke has a better ratio overall.

Otis Khan came on as a 65th minute sub for Newport in their 1-0 home defeat by Cambridge United.

What did he ever do? I wouldn’t miss him at all. Good for the first game then missing on the pitch and on in training too.

OTIS KHAN WATCH
Watched Otis Khan play for Newport County against Grimsby Town on iFollow on Tuesday night. Otis struggled to make an impact on the game again although he did have a great chance to equalise for Newport in the 79th minute after a very good one two with Josh Sheehan but James McKeown made a good save with his legs. I would have subbed Otis in the 2nd half but surprisingly Michael Flynn hooked off Jordan Green who had looked lively up front and who had scored Newport's first goal in the 1st half (although it was a simple tap in into an empty net).
The midfield stats on whoscored.com back up Otis not getting into the game enough. He had 44 touches which was the lowest for Newport's midfield. He made 25 passes with 16 being accurate which was again the lowest. He started off on the left hand side but then switched to the right in the 2nd half until later on when he went back to the left.
My Otis Watch revealed the following:
1st Half
Good battling and won the ball.
Gave ball away.
Lost ball x 2
Good pass to George Nurse for a shot on goal.
2nd half
Attempted cross which is blocked x 2
Cross headed away
Over hit cross to far post which goes out of play.
Backward pass to right back x 4
Has a shot on goal from free kick. Straight at keeper and easily saved.
Cross headed away.
Gives ball away.
Dispossessed by Grimsby's left back trying to put a cross in.
Loses ball again.
Very good one two with Josh Sheehan on the left puts him clean through on goal but James McKeown saves with his legs.

Otis Khan had a release clause of £100,000 contained in his contract with Yeovil Town which was paid by the Stags according to wikipedia.
"In late June, the club received a bid in the region of £100,000 which met the release clause of attacking midfielder Otis Khan from fellow League Two side Mansfield Town, Khan subsequently signed a two-year contract with the Nottinghamshire side"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017%E2%8 ... .C._seasonFrom Burton Albion forum (May 2018):
"According to TeamTalk, the Brewers are one of four clubs interested in the 22-year-old forward, with Preston North End and League One duo Oxford United and Luton Town also named in the report. Former Sheffield United youth forward Khan scored 10 goals in a superb first half of the 2017-18 season with Yeovil that saw him linked with a January move away from Huish Park. He opted to remain with the Glovers for the rest of the campaign, although he would not score again after December 29 as the second half of his season failed to live up to the early stages. The report suggests Khan has a £100,000 release clause in his contract. Brewers boss Nigel Clough has previously said that "there won't be funds for transfer fees" and Albion are likely to have a quiet summer transfer window if the majority of their current squad stays together, meaning a move for Khan would be unlikely at this stage."
