Cornwall has a vibrant tourism industry (and rightly so) ... but Mansfield (as with places like Scunthorpe, Doncaster & Sheffield for example) will never have the Cornish attraction. We need to be realistic. Either build the hotel - or my preferred option - rebuild the Bishop St. stand. Which was the preferred option of all Stags fans on several forums (and rightly so). It's time to do the Bishop!
Sheffield had 17M tourists last year compared to Cornwall which had 5.5M. It proves places around us do have attraction. Cornwall isn’t even English, right
or so the Cornish claim.

Your right c.w.m.Have met people in Camborne who have never been to England, their choice of phrase. Some of them think a trip to Truro, like going to Notts. from Mansfield,is an expedition.Yet they still have four hotels.

I assume One Call Estates will build and own the hotel and Hilton will operate it. The club may get a small reduction in their lease cost to compensate them for loss of car parking space other than that it will be totally seperate from the football club.
If the club can justify developing BS then again One Call Estates would build the stand and charge the club for the cost over the length of the lease. So the club would need to raise enough additional income from the new stand to pay the additional annual lease cost.
The BS development could potentially give the club some additional income but at a risk.

How will adding another stand to a ground that is never full bring in any additional income ?
If it is a home stand then it won't make any difference to attendance levels.
If it is an extra away stand then it would be needed 2/3 times a season maximum.
Worst case scenario, if they made it a home terrace as many seem to want, it would actually reduce income as attendances wouldn't increase but some who currently pay to sit down would move over and pay less to stand.
Unless/until we get promoted there is absolutely no sense in spending any money on redeveloping BS.

If we built a stand like Macc's new one we would make a lot of revenue from corporate boxes. Sadly that's the way the game is going these days. Clubs are building stadiums solely with corporate firms in mind. We don't have any corporate boxes where you can sit and watch the game from. What we need is something like the one at Macc which would be the basic or splash out and go for the one like Burton Albion's main stand which is superb for corporate sponsors.

True that. I read Brentford's new ground will increase their corporate capacity from 68 to 3,500!!

But bearing in mind the restricted space available on the BS side, would anything like that even fit on there ?

Oh aye there’s plenty of room there but it would probably need to be built from ‘inside’ the ground with it being tight around there with houses.

To redevelop the Bishop St side at this time would be a complete waste of money.
Best left to when we have a reasonable shout of promotion to league 1.
So forget it for next season as well.

I’m sure Caroline as succumbed to the Irish charm because this manager seems to talk without delivering .. 2 wins in 11 games is pathetic and the football is substandard at best .

I don't agree at all Andy, for us to progress we need to do it on and off the pitch. The only way we can have a sustainable club long term is to introduce corporate facilities which a new stand would contain. We have wasted millions trying to win promotion, paying players over the odds and with nothing to show for it. We should invest wisely into the squad, but should be making wage savings, reducing the bill and number of players whilst at the same time improving the clubs infrastructure which will generate further income long term. It's also the uglies thing I've ever seen!

I agree Rob. Burton's rise was slow & steady but they had good infrastructure before they had a good team. They also have a smaller fanbase than us.

The best place for executive boxes is in the UWS with the current pre and post match catering and hospitality. Probably easier said than implemented. Could they be built either side of the Directors box? It would probably mean relocating 200/300 season ticket seats else where in the UWS but cheaper than a new BS stand which would be isolated.

There should've been executive boxes along the middle part of the West Stand but H*slam refused to pay for them to be fitted out. There should also have been offices along there that businesses could hire out. There should've been a club shop and a tunnel as well as a warm up pitch under the stand too but because the grants didn't cover those, he refused to agree to them being included.

I would love to see the original plans and see just how much he cut from them.

There were 3 original plans I think. I did see them all but this was years ago. One of the plans was turning the whole ground 90/180 degrees so there would be more room but the grant would only rebuild like for like so that went out the window as ‘he’ would’ve had to pay for that. I’ve said it numerous times on here but if you look at both ends they should’ve gone corner to corner and been something like 2,250-2,500 each but the grant only covered up to 1,900 I think it was. So that’s why neither end goes to the corner flags as he cut that too. There’s loads of things we should’ve had including dressing rooms and a tunnel in the west stand but we’re still using the ‘temporary’ tunnel!

Maybe, Dan, we should extend the existing tunnel along the front of the IG to the dugouts. The players would then emerge on the halfway line and, as an additional bonus, it would protect our poor wee lambs from those nasty fans that occupy the southern side of the IGL.
