Cook is confident enough in his ability to score at this level, that for the benefit of the team, for if Rose is injured Knowles will stay on the bench, and in particular a young man who is just starting out in his career, he let him have his moment with as little pressure on him as was possible.
And I also think that the way all the other subs, and those brought off got off the bench to watch and applaud young Jimmy's penalty shows great unity within the group.
It was Mal Benning who threw the ball to Jimmy Knowles. He then went straight to a slightly disgruntled Cook who appeared to my view to have expected to have been given the ball but accepted the decision.
No, he offered Cook the ball first and he refused.
