60 yard shot from morecambe. Hits the bar.

The young lad Smith would be better in midfield than either of these two

Wonder what the stats are when Bishop and McDonald start in the middle together?

Logan
Gordon Preston Pearce Benning.
McDonald Donohue Bishop CJ.
Rose Maynard.
I think, however, we will start 3-5-2 and play the same side as last week but with Donohue or Khan instead of Mellis. Not a bad side at all but at home against Morecambe I would love to see the 4-4-2 formation used in the second half at Newport.
How can you not start with Khan over McDonald?. He changed the game at Newport and was full of running.
McDonald and Donahue together is far to defensive for me especially when you consider the opposition and also add Bishop into the mix.
The fact is we are blessed in midfield and the different combinations give us loads of options but against Morcambe we need to be on the front foot from the off. If we sit back they will park the bus and become even harder to break down. Quick close passing on the floor with nothing over head height should do it.
Actually think at the moment central midfield looks like our weakest area in terms of real quality, though we do have decent depth. Bit concerned that we won’t be comfortable enough on the ball in there with Mellis out,
are Macca and Bishop capable of going and getting the ball off the defenders and get us playing or will it be rushed? That opinion on midfield quality is formed having seen next to nothing of Donohue though and he could, and will hopefully be a top player for us so could change that outlook.
Completely agree that Khan has to start and a quick start is the key for this one. Should get the win.
An emphatic no.
*but we’re back in it

Lucky not to be 4 or 5. Absolutely over run in the middle of the park. Bish and Macca chasing shadows. Morecombe taking the pee. See another red card with the frustration coming.

We've looked better since switching to 3-5-2. Actually look like we've got some ideas now.
Final verdict: we don't start games well. But it's gone from 45 minutes at Newport to 35 minutes today. By September we may stop shipping 2 goals early doors.

On the positive side it was 2 nil at ht last week. Bit better when we put CJ in his square hole. But that was shocking. 50yard balls into our box and nobody putting their head on it. A bit of pressure and these could collapse but it would only be papering over the cracks of complete disorganisation.

Nicky Maynard and Khan look a step above the rest, Gordon did well - that’s where it ends.
Bishop has been abysmal, and Logan a liability.

Are you surprised with those two in the centre of the park and your exciting left winger on the right

tbf Sweeney was poor last week so made sense to start Preston but he's not had a good game.

Poor start again, as we have all through pre-season. Can’t keep giving teams a two goal head start.

Two games, two conceded in two first halves.
Manager is an ex defender - not good
Opposition will now know to go for us right from the start.
Whatever happened to our best defensive record from last season with the same players?!
