Didn't say we wouldn't miss him. Just that we've way too many midfielders and lapslie leaving alleviates that and that we've better midfielders who would have been worse to get rid of.

It's been my opinion all season that we needed more CB, I was surprised . It's my opinion that we shouldn't even be at a point where Hawkins, a forward who is a decent backup in defence, is one of our best defenders.

If we let Hawkins go then we not only need a centre half but a striker, I genuinely believe if played up front he would get 15 goals per season.

Remains to be seen if they are “my mate told me rumours” or the real thing. Obviously the fees are guess work

If they want to go it’s best to get rid of them. I don’t want their negativity in the changing room. Let’s see who we get in but the alarm bells that have been ringing over the last few weeks are are becoming deafening right now.

I think some have an inflated sense of what sort of fee to expect. These are L2 players with six months left on their deals, at least one of who appears to want to leave.

Broomo says we have replacements lined up so let’s wait and see who they are.

We can replace Hawkins, he’s a good player but not a world beater.

We can replace Hawkins, but we need to go one further and get an additional CB as well otherwise we are not going to be any better off really than we currently are. Our replacement for Hawkins may well be better than him, but going like for like isn’t going to solve much as there will still be too much dependence on Perch & JJ who aren’t good enough and are our weakness in that area.

Disagree to an extent. My biggest problem with our defence is the lack of pace, if we add that to our current CBs then we’ll be fine.

We have a bigger issue with Gordon (who’s not good enough) and Macca (who is injured or past it). I’d like us to bring in 1 CB and two full backs/wing backs.

Really not sure how Hawkins has become our best player as some have said. He's a striker playing in central defence and thats certainly showed at times.
As a striker he's hardly prolific and his presence there encourages lumping it forward and isolates Oates and Swan.
In those terms he's not a big miss if he goes. His loss is only amplified because of our total lack of other ability at centre half.
Lapslie has been hit and miss this season, partly due to being played out of position (theres a theme here). However I would be more concerned losing Clarke or Maris. Boetang needs to step up.

Well let's hope we can pick the pockets of other league 2 clubs, and sign their better players who have 6 months left on their contract.

Also £100k won't compensate the income of a play off semi and final.

If it is true I hope we get to know who has agreed this and their reasons why.

Hawkins being a loss is more down to the poor squad planning in the summer and other players regressing.

If we sign two centre backs, it will certainly soften the blow.

If true looks like the season is already written off and this is start of re build for next
Oh dear it’s all a bit of a mess
Where do we go from here ??
Hawkins and Lapslie arguably 2 of our best
Hawkins missing being a proper striker probably

Hawkins height will be missed at set pieces at both ends of the pitch.

In a league of "giants" we would be at a loss if Hawkins goes.

Also if it is true that Gillingham are going to greatly enhance Hawkins salary, then it suggests our budget isn't what some posters think it is.

All about who comes in. I'm prepared to see what unfolds. Could go either way. But this is looking like a far more significant transfer window than it usually should be.

No it suggests they are willing to pay more and are likely a tad desperate, nothing more.

I'm torn really. Hawks has done OK in defence when he has had someone next to him with a bit of speed but he's only a adequate back up. He's better up front, offers something different. I think his size terrifies oppositions defences and he would definitely get us at least 10 goals a season but again his mobility let's him down.
Laps on his day had the ability to be a good league one player. He's been a bit hit and miss for a while though. Playing him out of position hasn't helped but I don't think he's played as well as when we first signed him.
I'd still take Quinn, Marid and Clarke over him as they have more of a all around game.. Laps is an exciting player to watch when on form, he reminds me of Disley, great on his day bit goes missing a lot.

I'd be happy for both to stay but wouldn't be too disappointed if both left as long as we have replacements.
If we had to keep one, I'd take Hawkins

I must be one of only a handful who won’t miss Hawkins.

He let us down badly at Wembley and is a liability at the back when the balls played on the floor.

How many mid guided passes does he make in a game?

We will replace him, I have no doubt in that.

As for Laps I’m gutted he’s going, second top scorer and most assists this season and we will truly miss him.

It is all in who comes into the club now for me.

And £100k for two players out of contract in the summer is excellent business by the club

Oli Hawkins has been of our best players over the last two seasons.

The transfer rumours do seem to be coming from Stags fans. Gillingham fans do not seem to know anything.

Kenny Jackett signed Oli Hawkins for Portsmouth and he does like a big target man as he signed Harry Smith. He also played Oli Hawkins in defence. Neil Harris had Matt Smith at Millwall.

Agreed - Hawkins has been a key part of a defence that most have criticised and didn't contribute a great deal in attack last week. Laps is no better than the (admittedly out of form) midfielders we still have under contract - there was tons of moaning over the summer that we were signing yet another midfielder - now moaning that we are letting one go (who is out of contract in 6 months anyway).

It's clear the squad needs freshening up - much more interested in who is coming in.
