Hopefully this means a striker signing for us will be imminent.

Let’s hope he does well, can force a fee in jan or bring him back for us.
Imagine it means we’ll just be getting someone in on loan though now. Or even keeping Gale about rather than loan out.

Will still free up his wages so we can bring a striker ourselves in

I assume he will be out of contract in June 2023.

Maybe we can only get an incoming player on loan for 6 months?

More likely though that we are intent on trying to get some money back on him and it just wasn’t materialising this summer. Send him out on loan for 6 months in the hope he scores and we can command a fee, and if he doesn’t then we’ve not lost out any more than we would have if he went on a season long loan. (Unless we get stuck with his wages again post Jan)

That said, we could have done that with O’Keeffe after he had a strong 6 months out on loan but we let him go on a free anyway afterwards  different story with strikers though

I assume it means whatever we are asking for him, clubs aren't prepared to pay it.

I also assume having signed him on the back of a good goalscoring season, we'll be paying him a good wedge.

So at least this way it frees up his considerable wage that could be better used elsewhere.

If he scores a fair few from now until Jan, it also puts him in the shop window to maybe still get a transfer fee (hopefully)

Ive got a feeling we will be helping with his salary to move him on, thats why only a 6 months loan, .
I thought it would a permanent move but wages could be the issue,
But we wish him well and see what January brings

Could still have a part to play for us.
If he gets game time at Walsall, scores as I would expect him to do, he might feature in second half of season.
Just hoping he can’t play against us.

I think it would be unrealistic to expect a fee for a player who can't get into our team. It's all about reducing the wage bill.

Quick start for him, he’s just scored away at Solihull.

I’m really surprised we couldn’t get a fee for him. Maybe we’re hoping he does well and we can sell him in January. Well O’Keefe had a brilliant first half of the season and we gave him away for a free anyway.

I'm not. Why would they want to pay full whack for someone we weren't playing, were desperate to get rid of and had no other clubs interested in? They held all the power in that transaction.

Clubs like Posh always manage to get a fee for their deadwood.

It may not save all his estimated as considerable wage, depends how much Walsall agreed to pay us.

Under loan rules the player continues to be paid by their parent club, the loaning club then pay MTFC whatever is agreed between the two clubs etc.

So we could be saving all his salary or a proportion of it, anyway it's money we have to use on another player if Nigel so desires.

Clough and the (deleted) loan market....

Just get rid or get in.

Looks like it's going to be a slow window according to Cloughie post Oldham.

Can see deadline day being busy for clubs if players further up the chain keep hanging on.

To be fair if this is our final squad I’m pretty happy with it now, I don’t think we need another forward. Maybe a CB but that’s not essential.

Personally I would rather have DJ up front than Akins , but the Manager doesn't appear to go with the Fox in the Box type of Striker he would rather have a utility player who doesn't seem able to 1/ control the ball with his first touch or 2/ hit a barn door with a banjo when he has a goal opportunity
