When played consistently in the team, one of the best left backs in the lower leagues. Not had much of a chance under the last two managers but still a very good player.

Mal has won quite a few sponsor’s man of the match awards during his time here which is testament to his abilities as not many fullbacks get that accolade. Best of luck.

Good player and a nice guy. I wish him all the best. Do we know where he's going by the way? Someone said lincoln?
I'm sure he'll be given a warm welcome when he pops up at the Mill again with his new team.

Been a great player and shame he is leaving. Always a slight doubt for me when managers release quality players who they should really be seeking to manage and get the best out of. Our loss I fear.

He hasn’t been released, it was a mutual decision.

Great sentiments from Mal in his leaving interview. A gentleman to the end. Sad to see him go, but leaving on good terms. Look forward to following his career, albeit elsewhere.

I feel his best years are about to come, gutted it won't be with us.
Left footed defenders of his standard are very hard to find and I can see him getting a very good contract in the summer.

All the best Sir Mal.

All these comments show just how popular Mal is. Sad to see him go. He is one of the best left backs at this level.

Mr. Clough mentioned that they were 'edging towards' not offering him another contract - and given that he wasn't playing regularly, whilst it has been termed as 'mutual' it would appear that this was more the club's decision. Hopefully this is not another cost cutting exercise and we have a good replacement lined up.

All the best Mal. You are a credit to yourself and our club.

Just watched the extended version. Great interview.

Some great lines, Flitcroft ‘an incredible manager’, Pearcey could still be the best defender in L2 now.

I think the most telling one was when he said he was still not over the near miss season. I know he was probably exaggerating for contents sake, but his form has never reached those levels since (but he’s not on his own there).

If Sweeney also leaves that will be the whole Flitcroft team dismantled.

Players come and go but Mal will always be a legend to us at Stags. Him and CJ were great down the left side. A lovely chap too, good luck Mal.

Not many players have the respect & love of their home supporters but this topic about sir Mal speaks volumes of how much of a fans favourite he is .... let’s raise a toast to sir Mal Benning a knight of the Mansfield town realm.

I posted something on twitter when Pearxe was released saying similar to him being the best in the division. Mal liked it and not long after retracted the like.

Benning will to me be remembered as a very loyal servant to the Stags and for his goal against Chesterfield in 2018. He is also the Stags player with most League appearences since our EFL return in 2013. Here are those with 100 games or more after our game at Salford last Saturday:

Mal Benning 214
Krystian Pearce 192
CJ Hamilton 142
Danny Rose 141
Chris Clements 115
Alex MacDonald 109
Ryan Sweeney 105
Ryan Tafazolli 104

Total number of players used in League fixtures since our EFL return in 2013 are 162.

CJ really surprises me with appearances, have you counted sub appearances in with those stats.

Sub appearances are counted. Benning for example: 201 + 13 = 214.

Don't personally believe Lincoln but would love to see him do well there if he went.

Can see him ending up with Flitcroft at portvale.. close to his home also. Someone mentioned this but perhaps just a guess based location and DF
