I know that but a 1 hour commute with most of it on motorway or dual carriageway isn’t a chore.

You obviously don’t travel along the M1 regularly. That stretch is torturous at peak times.

Don’t think peak time travel bothers many footballers.

No I do the A3 and the M25 then into Wimbledon My commute by car is never less than an hour. I get that it’s closer and better but not a reason to move.

We’ve just signed a player who has spent his entire career playing in the higher echelons of English football and is still fit enough to play a full slate of games.

Thread transcends into a discussion about commuting!

Belly, can you offer any thoughts on where you think Quinn might fit into our tactical setup and how his skill set might enhance the team’s performance?

I didn’t realise that you were the person responsible for dictating the points that could be discussed on this site. I was responding to a post about him wanting a shorter commute. I’m not criticising him in any way for that. I’m just saying that Sheffield to Burton v Sheffield to Mansfield isn’t a reason. Now, Coughlan’s commuting issues absolutely were a factor. Hope that clears this up.

Completely boring drivel. Nothing to do with football as per usual. You had the temerity to criticise people talking about stats too.

You don’t even watch the Stags do you?

It is if you are fed up with the same journey, day after day, and have been doing it for three years and an opportunity nearer to home crops up.

Then you bring in the A38 Markeaton Island game changer, not having to navigate that regularly is a real plus point.

Haha. Says the loser who sticks up for Palmer. I wasn’t starting an argument. I just said that someone saying a change of commute by reducing it by less than 30 mins isn’t a realistic reason to ask for a move and I don’t believe it was a major factor.

You do realise that starting your response by attacking me is an immediate give away that you don’t have a reasoned argument don’t you?

I’m not ‘sticking up’ for anyone. I have drawn my own opinion on him and won’t let a bully like you tell me what I should think.

So, how will the signing of Quinn affect the stags performances?

I would think after a career of travelling 6 days a wk for 18 yrs ,then a job offer 40 minutes from home to a better club than you are at ,Possibly car sharing is a no brainer

It’s like trying to reason with children. My point is that his decision to come will be based on football reasons such as wanting to play for Clough more than half an hour’s driving.

He will be a bonus to the side and a good addition. I think I already said that.

Looking at his history in management players like working with Clough and older players need to be given a job within their capability's, Now only Clough and Quinn know his role.
but it is on a short term loan, He could be here to work with the squad,, and put experience in the dressing room, if on the bench you could not wish for a better player to come on.
He is here for a reason and for the benefit of the club. J-F-H had to give a reason for him leaving. and wanting younger legs in their midfield does not fit well for a seasoned pro,
Perhaps we have younger legs, but wasting energy in the wrong areas, All will be revealed ..
,Knowing Clough he has someone lined up for the roll next season

It is not uncommon for players/managers to say they 'want to move closer to home' - even if it is not actually the real reason for the move!

I think he will be an excellent signing and I trust Nigel's judgement. Maris has done a good job at the base of the midfield in the last few games, but having cover and competition for that key position if we are going to play that formation makes sense.

I'm with VP on this one. Clough knows the current players, and understands what he wants\needs to improve (or add cover). He said he would bring in better quality than those leaving, and no disrespect to Alastair Smith, I think he has delivered on this. Smith wasn't pushing the first team for a place, but in Stephen Quinn he has got somebody with international pedigree, more experience and has played at a higher level.... and better still, he has been playing this season so should be match-fit.

For all I care he could play Quinn in goal, and I'd trust Clough's judgement (at the moment).

Seems strange no comment from Clough, and no interview from the player must be with having the weekend off

I suspect it's the same story with Rollin Menayese, though he's on loan for now.

This is what I'm missing, usually the words are he's here to do this or that and to bring etc..
Then you get the player saying I can bring etc...
    Hopefully tomorrows press release?
