Wouldn't have we just paid up the rest of his contract? I'm not 100% how these things work though

Let's hope he's interested in some of our summer signings.

you know when we sign a player on a one year deal with the option for another, cant we sign players on a two year deal with the option to cancel the second year if they're crap   what a miracle that would be with GCs lot

When he followed GC I was happy.

In retrospect think both moved for logistical reasons, may be wrong. Just happy Clough here

I could be totally wrong but I thought contracts are rarely paid up in one go like that. Doing so usually means the manager taking less. Probably lots of variables at play there though.

Lets say there was £200k owed over the remainder of a contract. The 'mutual consent' normally means hes agreed to go now for less money, say £100k, for example, but paid up straight away. Managers who won't do a deal are usually kept on the pay role at a club until its all paid off.

Its different with a player because you can only be registered to play at one club. If you can't force a move or won't leave you sit in the stands getting paid, forcing the club honour it in full. Managers and coaches, i think, are just like normal employees. Unless your contract forbids it you can be employed by as many clubs/businesses as you like.

Yorkshire and Bobby. Sacked employees can have contracts paid up at the outset or kept on the payroll on gardening leave. The second option is the one often used by football clubs as it can be a lot cheaper. May have to pay off the difference between new salary and old if new one is lower.

It will depend on the terms of the contract - Managerial contracts in football are not standard. Acasman’s explanation seems broadly correct but it may also depend on what the contract says and whether there is a contractual (rather than legal) duty to mitigate, which means subsequent wages are taken off the settlement.

It may also depend on whether the club negotiated a ‘clean break’ (ie you can have X and that’s the end of it, regardless of your new job).

Basically it’s all pure speculation though as we don’t know what the contract says and we don’t know what the terms of any dismissal were.

certainly won’t be paid by both us and Stevenage, therefore pretty sure it’s now only GC

Not necessarily - See my post above.

We don’t know what deal was actually reached (and we probably never will as they are usually subject to NDA) and so we are speculating without the facts.

If he had a two year contract we might have agreed to pay him up for (say) one year and then he could take his chance on getting a new job quickly and it could have been agreed he could get paid in his new job as well.

So in that sense he would (if that were the case, it may not be) be being paid (in effect) for both jobs. But he takes the risk of getting a new job within the one year.

As I said it’s pure speculation as we don’t know the deal.

Joe Dunne: Stevenage assistant boss leaves because of family illness

Stevenage assistant manager Joe Dunne has left the club a week after being appointed because of a family illness.

The former Bristol Rovers and Mansfield number two, 47, joined the League Two side to work under boss Alex Revell.

"Joe is devastated to bring us this news, but we completely understand that family comes first," said Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace.

The Hertfordshire side are 22nd in the fourth tier and are now looking to find a replacement for Dunne.
