Robbie Cowling, the Colchester United Chairman stated that they received around £8,000 for selling 952 ifollow match day passes (452 Col U fans + 500 Bolton fans) but in normal times the club would have expected around £54,000 in gate receipts.
Whereas Bolton received around £14,500 for selling 1,752 ifollow match day passes (2,252-500) compared to around £600 they would normally have received in commission for selling away tickets.
The rule on home clubs only being allowed to keep the income from the first 500 ifollow match day passes purchased by away fans was clearly brought in to benefit the larger clubs.
Thanks Tippy, but the £54,000 will be a gross income, I would imagine by the time you have taken off match day costs etc. it would drop to around£25k - £30k.
The £8k would be clear profit so assuming £30k would suggest Colchester are losing £22k per game
