It is all speculation but I suspect that we were not the last option but only considered when all League One options were extinguished.

I think Nicky has mentioned before location was the most important thing for him. I believe his son is at an academy possibly Man Utd and he didn’t want to move anywhere that would upset that

Sounds like the same deal has been on the table all along, he was looking for better elsewhere but nothing came to fruition

We were 100% not the last option for him. He had 2 more offers on the table that I knew of!

Are you his agent!!!

Not at all. Just got given some info about his transfer activity that I thought I'd share with Stags fans. Luckily he chose us over Port Vale, Bradford and Bristol Rovers though. It's a huge signing!

Wonder if because his contract offer was drawn up pre-salary cap, and the fact that we were at the head of pushing for the salary cap, means it was the best deal he had on offer because it could fall under the exemption?

Seems a bit coincidental that he has left us hanging on whilst looking for a better deal, then the salary cap comes in and he signs with us after GC said there had been a deal on the table for him since season's end.

I'd assume that deal was on reduced terms from his previous year, but even still it would be significantly higher than the average salary cap wage.

Some strange comments on here. Maynard is a class act and possibly the difference between us getting a promotion/play off spot or not. Another striker might leave because of this to balance the books, but none are as good as Maynard so I’m fine with that. Rose has given his all for the club so if it’s him that goes, good luck to him......big IF though. I personally would love to see a fully fit Cook & Maynard upfront but guess Bowery could be the guy GC chooses as the foil for Maynard. With Reid also it certainly adds some competition.
I’d rather nobody leaves but we might need to offload one now. This is a great re-signing imo.

Watched his iFollow interview, some highlights
- felt he had earned a shot at L1
- had offers in L1 but they weren’t good location wise
- 3/4 offers in L2
- felt he had unfinished business here, enjoyed it last season, says the fans deserve better
- manager key, knows how to get the best out of him
- feels he is approx a week behind fitness wise
- immediately answered what will be different this season with ‘we’ll be more organised’ and have more of a structure. He says attack not the problem last season, didn’t defend well enough as a team
- won’t play any part in tomorrow’s game

Quite possibly so Sparky. But seeing as you always go for a 2-0, who is your second prediction?

For all the other strikers we have now.... its got to be Maynard & cook as it should have been last season. I think they will play well together.

I do like rose but we could do without him falling over all the time. If he goes out on loan I wouldn't be too bothered by it.

Another daft comment, you spend your money where you like, it doesn't always have to be down the pub or 32Red.

PEN 15 is owned by Steve Parrish, former teammate of Barry Sheene.

Spookily, I’ve been looking at a private plate. The one I’m looking at is 250 quid. That’s pennies.
