Struggling to pay the mortgage

Postby zygon2003 » Fri Aug 14, 2020 8:01 pm

Jesus. A new away kit, £5 per friendly and season ticket at nearly £440 if you don’t take a refund, it’s getting a bit crazy to ‘support our club’. I presume they’ll want to sell programmes and burgers. Not even been to a game yet!!

In fairness I think zygon makes a good point as an example, don't spend beyond your means if your personal circumstances mean you can't afford it.

I thought this was going to be a semi-interesting article about how covid-19 is affecting lower league footballers

I don't understand how you reached £440 either?

I am sorry you’re all offended but it’s tight at the mo and we are getting pelted with ‘buy this, buy that’. I’m trying to support the club as anxious we survive but maybe a ST discount on the new away shirt would be appropriate.

It is all about priorities. My season ticket and supporting the stags is one of my top priorities.Certainly above drinking and going out for meals and buying the latest i phone.Everybody has different ones so it is up to the individual as to what they want to spend their money on.

It works both ways , JR having to fund the club as we go through these times.
Imagine the hit on his insurance company with Businesses shutting down and people losing there jobs all having to stop or cancel there insurance policies .

I salute those paying to MTFC for season tickets showing your great support.
Also we need as many to watch on ifollow to support the club in these difficult times. :)

Most motor insurers have (financially) done very well as a result of Covid, according to industry reports. In fact so well that they have come under pressure to provide refunds.

It’s a sad fact of lower league football that the vast majority of clubs run at a loss so in the absence of a JR (or similar) most clubs couldn’t exist as they are.

There are a few exceptions that can be wheeled out but for the most part fan owned clubs (ie no wealthy owner) have dropped down the leagues or realised that the model is not sustainable and sold out to others. The investment could come from responsible owners willing to invest funds to get a return. At the moment we seem to have a mix of wealthy and well intentioned owners pouting money in (JR) or some that appear willing to run clubs into the ground, and perhaps a lot in between.

I know people complain about dividends to owners but it would actually be healthy if the salary cap (other issues aside) would allow clubs to make a profit and pay a dividend. This would encourage investment into faciiities and youth set up, in order to generate a longer term return.

agreed however don’t forget having a football club at the end of each tax year can be very useful to large companies ;)
