Shrewsbury Town have 16 players under contract which could be expensive. Omar Beckles (6 foot 3) is out of contract amd he was a very good League 2 centre half for Accrington. He also played right and left wing back for Shrewsbury this season which he had never done before as well as going up front. Josh Laurent had a good game against the Stags in the FA Cup.

Joseph Mills and Liam Shephard are decent full backs. Not sure about Farrend Rawson. I can remember thinking he was worse than Matt Preston on the ball when we played at the New Lawn this season. He just booted a few balls over the top from the Stags straight into the stand when he was not under pressure.

I liked Ryan Taylor (30) at Rotherham, Portsmouth and Oxford but he's had a few injuries and has hardly played in recent seasons. Niall Canavan (29) is a good centre half and has two League 2 promotions. He is from Leeds and played for Scunthorpe and Rochdale.

If he’s still got local roots it could be a good motivation for him especially if all clubs are restricting their offers. That said I also remember him from that home game so we’d have to be convinced it was a one off display.

Nathan Watson has also been released as well. I think he's a local lad as well. They paid a record transfer fee for him from Coalville.

He was badly injured in January and only made his comeback against our reserves on 10th March. In a game played in horrendous conditions with a howling gale blowing across the pitch, he looked like somebody who was nursing himself back in to match fitness so difficult to tell if he could be a useful addition or not.

He had a broken rib and ligament injuries around the shoulder, as well as a punctured lung. It was from a collision. Don’t think you can call him injury hit for that!

Those injuries shouldn’t impact his career going forward.
