39 goals in 89 games in League Two. A goal every 166 mins.
46 goals in 100 games in League One. A girl every 181 minutes.

Yeah, proper average that.

It's all, as usual, about who offers the most.

If Maynard is open for reasonable offers I would be talking to him.

No gamble, you know what you are getting with him, he knows the club and it's ambition.

And he knows Coughlans style of football so I think you're barking up the wrong tree with Maynard.

I think Maynard suited GC's style of play, he always worked hard for him and didn't shy away like Cook.

Maynard is a finisher, he's lively and skilful, a far better prospect than Cook ever could be.

Let Cook go out on loan and sign Maynard.

The fact we’re even making offers to the likes of Doyle and Bostwick shows our ambition and budget. There are obvious reasons why a player would rather go to Bolton or Salford. More attractive locations (to most), a former premier league club with an impressive stadium and the chance to rub shoulders with the big wigs at Salford.

There is no salary cap, yet, and if one was voted in on July 29th how could they implement it and enforce it if clubs sign big wage players before the cap exists.

The EFL cannot say to any club you knew it was coming because the clubs could yet vote against it.

That's my view anyway.

Yeah agree I cannot see a wage cap being in place before the 21/22 season start. It would have to be agreed and voted through before the 1st July of the season it is being considered for. Teams like ourselves are already giving out new two year contracts to new signings from higher leagues probably on very good terms, so it would be difficult in retrospect to expect these agreed contracts to fall into a reduced wages salary cap. You will have to let these contracts expire or be cancelled by the parties concerned to be fair IMO

They cannot implement a retrospective wage cap.

3 year deal for Doyle at Bolton. As much as I’d have loved to sign him, that length of contract is over the top for a 32 year old particularly on the money he’ll be on. Not surprised nobody has matched it.

On the other hand, if he scores the goals to take them up I doubt they’ll be too bothered. I can understand either point of view on this one.

Nobody in league two should be on a three year contract, unless it's some up and coming youngster who is pretty much destined for higher things but yeah, that's how we got into trouble giving out long contracts with mirfin, diamond etc... crocked but in a lengthy contract.

Bolton fans reckon they have better finances than all of league two and a lot of league one because they haven't spent anything for a while. We know what it's like to spend big money on a playing squad, but not getting the results!

Nice to see we are a little more in control of spending. Rumour of Doyle being on 5k at Bolton (when he signs) for 3 years and we didn’t match them (or aykeast, “others in the hunt for his signature didn’t match it”)

Last summer, and the summer before, we would’ve blown all others out the water to sign a player like him

If he really is on 5k a week that's a £750,000 contract. Sorry but no one is worth that in league 2.

If they get up after the first year, he may well be sitting on the bench on that money unless they can offload him to another ambitious club.

Doyle is a finisher, but not the type of player who can create something from nothing for himself.
That was evident when he was called back to Bradford and struggled there later on this season.
He's only a worthy addition if you've got the legs and creativity around him.
For a massive chunk of your budget, there's no point in blowing it on him when you could probably address two or three other problem positions for the same kind of outlay.

One area we look to be lacking in massively at the moment is in a creative department, so Doyle would have been a waste of money unless we get some decent players in there.

Agreed with the above, happy no to take Doyle on three year deal. I suspect he wouldn’t have been at this best throughout even for the next two years, never mind three. We move on, although at the moment there aren’t too many other obvious out of contract targets.

Danny Hylton maybe?

Bolton have already spent a six figure sum on poaching Evatt from Barrow , the quote in the Lancashire echo is Bolton wanderers set to cherry pick the best of league 2
