Peter Swann, the Scunthorpe Chairman, said on BBC Radio Humberside that Scunthorpe United have a playing budget in excess of £3 million and they are now trying to reduce the playing budget over the next few seasons to get it to a third of the current budget. They have around 35 players in their squad. Swann says that he had a real go at it trying to get Scunthorpe into The Championship but they just fell short and he is now trying to make the club sustainable.
He also stated that because they are unlikely to make the play offs they will probably not sign any more players in the transfer window unless they can get players out the door. He said they would probably not sign Junior Brown who is on loan from Coventry City. However they have now extended Junior's loan until the end of the season. They have also signed Jordan Gabriel on loan from Nottingham Forest and goalkeeper, Ian Lawlor on loan from Donny.
Peter Swann used to own Gainsborough Trinity and is married to Karin Swann who is the neice of Tony Wilkinson who owns Wilkinsons (Wilkos). Karin Swann sold her 50% interest in the family business to Lisa Wilkinson, Tony Wilkinson's daughter, in 2014.
