Certainly going to be a decent quiz question in years to come.

Which Stags player modelled more shirts, than games he played in one?

How can a football club get insurance on a player without a medical? If that is the case, then that stands with the CEO and COO not the manager. It seems very odd that a player signed in June did not have a medical. You hear stories about very last minute transfers in the January window but this claim does not make any sense at all.
So either it is untrue or we have a serious issue in the oversight of transfers from those running the club.

Fake news, urban myth ........ call it what you like. Of course he had a medical ( maybe the medical wasn't as stringent as it should have been but that's a different issue ).

Remember him scoring the last minute winner at Exeter on the same day United put 9 past Ipswich (?)

Iffy seemed like a nice lad, my company sponsored him so he spent a fair bit of time sat in the stands with us.

He made 28 apps in 2 years for Stags, and scored 8 goals, including a hattrick off the bench v the Gimps.

Had he not picked up that injury, I think we'd have gone up that season, instead of failing in the play-offs.

I can't remember who beat us now, some tin pot non league outfit as I recall.
Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.

We signed him from Huddersfield which involved Kevin Grey gong to Huddersfield.

It was a big signing at the time, all went pear shaped when Iffy did his ankle in a pothole on the Worksop pitch.

Had he not been a DF signing they may have given him a bit of slack.

He looked decent until he did his ankle.

The initial injury was not his fault but he didn’t exactly look after himself. I regularly saw him out drinking “student style” with Bradford Uni Old Boys including when he was on crutches with his injury. Allegedly he damaged his other leg when his crutch ‘slipped while he was climbing some stairs’.
He was a fantastic bloke to know and I think he learnt from these injuries and went on to play for another 8 years ( until he was 35) mainly for Gillingham and Swindon and scored plenty of goals before going into management.
Not sure what he is doing now but he has a degree in Business and Economics to fall back on!
