Paul Cox thinks Dempster is a shrewd appointment

Postby Chadman » Sat May 18, 2019 4:01 pm

Ex-Stags boss Cox believes the player he brought to the club can achieve success as the new manager and admits he was heartbroken over the club's failure to achieve promotion and not surprised at all by David Flitcroft's sacking with the resources he'd had.

Good interview that. Almost like a 'job' interview.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

Riddled with spelling mistakes, he’d be wise not to let Lomas fill out his application form.

Would definitely take Cox back at the club in some format. Maybe Murray would come back too.

Sentiment doesn't usually pay in football. What role could PC shine in? Has he got sufficient league experience, has he contacts with football league players ? Does he have the coaching ability for league football ? We have a rookie team manager so we will need someone on the management team with these qualities. AM by not having an experienced assistant with these qualities made his biggest mistake and it cost him his job. I sincerely hope JD doesn't make the same mistake.

Been saying it for ages I'd get Murray in as chief scout or Director of football.

Dealing with transfers.

He signed all our best players.
These are my opinions , if you don't like them I have others...

I don't think we need a Director of football. We just need a good manager with a good assistant.

As for Cox and Murray - Both are Stags legends for getting us out of the conference and I like them. However, I'm not sure where they could fit in if we still have ambitions of climbing up the leagues. Our ex GK Graham Brown was a scout for Coventry - it was facinating hearing his interview about what is entailed in that role - that is the kind of scout we need, rather than offering jobs because they were ex-managers.

JD will be inundated with agents offering various players. Given that 90% of our players are under contract for next season, we actually only need two good strikers, a midfielder, cover for full back, plus a GK until Bobby is fit and possibly a replacement winger for CJ.

I would not want Paul Cox here in any capacity. He got us out of the conference for which I am eternally grateful. His style of football was terrible.I want the team to play a passing game whenever possible. The midfield to play pass and move give and goes.Occasionally a long channel is not a bad thing.Murray would possibly be good as a scout.Dempster will have his own ideas I feel sure.

He is more likely to take over at county.
I'd still like to know what he was doing at the stags on the day east mids today was here.
He did look like he was in county training kit.
Ok black tee shirt shorts white socks and flip flops.
Hopefully dempster asked him over for a little advice about the job involved.

I didn't exactly mean a first team job, maybe something with the academy or a bit of unoffical role with help finding players in non-league, we all know Mansfield need to start making money like Peterborough have done for years.

Cox has done several pieces for Radio Nottm in recent weeks at Charlie's request.

I thought the decision to sack Flitcroft was reasonable. His target was to get promotion. Personally I would have given him another go though.

Dempster has done very well as youth team manager. It's a big step up of course. Hopefully he'll do a great job.

Ditto. I believe after reflection that is the majority view. No complaints if he was sacked but equally no complaints if we gave him another year. A bit like marmite.

Paul Cox thought Hoofing the ball was a good tactic

Lets give Demster a chance ..... but I cannot understand why once again the vacant managerial post was not advertised

A question for you Norm. What's your opinion on the latest 'cheap option'?

On face value I can see why fans can think he should walk, based on that.

However, no disrespect to JD, but he is a huge risk. In betting terms, we've just switched from backing one of the favourites to risking a punt on a rank outsider.

Provided, JR & the fans accept that then I think he'll be given a fair chance. Top 10 is my realistic opinion, maybe playoffs if he surprises us

JD is not a risk. Tell me what the safe options achieved? Evans or Flitcroft, or even Curle years ago.....exactly, they all achieved nothing. This is a sensible option imo. Lots of fans wanted JD a year ago. I trust JR with this one and anyway it’s his money!!!

I just think that it is odd that JR didn't want to see who else is out there, before appointing JD. It implies that he thinks that there is no-one out there who could possibly do a better job than JD. Time will tell how shrewd the appointment is.

Who’s he found?

Barnsley’s got a good reputation of youth prospects lately.
