A York fan asked me if David Mirfin was any good. Here is my summary of his 12 League starts for the Stags that I sent him.
"David Mirfin was my top rated player last season but he only started 12 league games before picking up a serious injury which kept him out all season. He's just returned from that injury and played a few reserve games. He made a dodgy start away at Crewe and in the first half against Rochdale in the League Cup but after that he was very solid at centre half. He does not have a lot of pace and is not great in the air but he is very good at reading the game and manoeuvring forwards out of the way so he can head or win the ball. He will nudge, shove and push them to one side and then hold them off. He was my Man of the Match for Luton, Wycombe and Cambridge at home and Lincoln City away. He has a couple of League 2 promotions on his CV with Huddersfield and Scunthorpe. I thought we would need him as back up as we play three at the back. However I think he does not have the pace to play left or right centre back but he could do a job in the middle if Krystian Pearce was injured."
