Anybody else remember when we beat St Gallen 2-0 at the Mill

When we used to play European opposition under the lights.

I remember us beating Galatasaray I believe 2.0 also Canada 3.0 ? I think Canada had played in the world cup not long before , I may be corrected on that.

Just did a little search and found this thread, as I can find nothing on google about this match, and yet I found a programme in my dad's collection from this game, think it was in October 1965? Anyone know why it took place, and did FC St Gallen play anyone else while they were over here, and shouldn't we try and set up another game :)
Also interested to know what the crowd was and if the programme is worth anything? :ugeek:

I'll dig out the match report, though I think my scrapbook for that season is currently out on loan.

Looking at the press cutting advert, it appears girls weren’t allowed in.

Not a surprise really as the F.A. banned females playing football until the early nineteen seventies

Much appreciated Martin, fascinating reading, and only 5000+ there for it, managed to find a bit of info out on a couple of their players, one went on to manage an awful lot of teams.

Ken actually lived in Walesby opposite my Auntie Joyce. When I starred in goal for WHinney Lane Primary in the North Notts Cup Final in 1957 Ken was the referee. Incidentally Whinney Lane won all 3 cups - U11,U13,U15.

I was at the Galatasaray and Canada games. Think the Canada game was in 86-87 pre season just after the Mexico World Cup. I was in Catterick.

Think Neville Chamberlain got sent off
