Defender joins Boston on loan
mansfieldtown.net, Fri 13 Sep 2019 Teenage defender Lewis Gibbens has today joined Conference North outfit Boston United on loan for three months. The 19-year-old returns to The Jakemans Stadium following a short loan spell in November of last year. Manager John Dempster said: “We’re pleased that Lewis is going on loan back to Boston, where he had a successful period previously. https://www.mansfieldtown.net/news/2019/september/defender-joins-boston-on-loan/ “We know the Boston staff well and he’s heading to a good club where he’ll continue his development. “It’s important that our young players get match time and Lewis will be physically tested against men, which is the next stage of his development. “The loan move will be beneficial to Lewis, Boston and ourselves,” he added. The 19-year-old, who will turn 20 during the loan spell, enjoyed a successful stint with the Pilgrims last season before suffering a dislocated shoulder in the defeat at Spennymoor Town on January 29. Gibbens scored once in nine appearances for the Pilgrims last season and manager Craig Elliott is delighted to have him back onboard. "He was superb for us last season and somebody I was always keen to bring back," said Elliott. "He has developed even more physically over pre-season at Mansfield and he brings great balance as a left-footed centre-back that is comfortable on the ball. "He loves to be aggressive in his defending and this signing will give us good options during the months ahead." ----------------- |
