The Stags have many injury worries ahead of the tough home tie with QPR. Ruled out are the suspended Scott Sellars, the injured strikers Colin Larkin and Shayne Bradley, injured left-backs Allen Tankard and Dave Jervis and Bobby Hassell is also extremely doubtful with a hamstring strain. Mark Lever should have recovered from a rib injury as should Wayne Corden. Jamie Clarke could come in at full-back with perhaps on trial Phil Hardy as an emergency left back. The Stags will select from: Pilkington, Clarke, Hardy, Moore, Lever, Corden, Williamson, Disley, Mackenzie, Christie, White (A), Lawrence, Holyoak, Reddington, Bacon, White (J).
QPR are a team who played the Mighty Stags in their inaugural league season way back in 1931-32 and both games that season were drawn, a 2-2 at the Mill on September 26, 1931 and a 1-1 in London on February 6, 1932. None of the previous 10 league games at the Mill have been goalless. Biggest win was a 8-1 on March 15, 1965 and the biggest defeat a 1-7 on September 24, 1966, and after that defeat the writer of these lines thought that QPR would run away with the div 3 Championship with lots of goals, which they eventually did with 103 goals scored and a margin of 12 points to Middlesbrough. Incidentally, the return game in London that season was the only goal-less meeting between the two teams to date. At the Mill, only two games have produced fewer than four goals. In both cases it was Mighty Stags wins, a 1-0 on October 12, 1963 and a 2-1 on February 5, 1966. That season also produced the only Stags away win at QPR, and that was an early away game that the Stags won 2-1 on August 28, 1965. The ten previous league games at the Mill have averaged five goals as shown in the stats below. Let's hope that the Stags can turn the tide and get on the scoring trail again.
