22nd September 2003 14:00

Port Vale Youth 4 Stags Youth 3
Stagsnet report by John Street

Stags Youth Team fell to there second defeat in two matches at Port Vale's Training Ground on Saturday Morning.
However the defeat and the circumstances were not as depressing as would initially look.

The Stags were without Baptiste, Mitchell and Buxton who were on first team duty, and once again were up against a more experienced opposition.

Stags started brightly and the passing was superb, but defensive errors cost them two goals before half-time and a third against just after the break.

With the game looking to have gone Stags who had played the better football throughout, scored there first when a Lloyd corner was headed back across goal by Jones for Manship to head home.
Minutes later another Jones header from a Lloyd corner and Stags were back in the game.
Lloyd then neatley slotted home to get the Stags back level at 3 - 3 to stun the home fans.

The game finished its last period on a knife edge with both sides looking for a winner, and in a repeat of last years visit the points were grabbed by the Valiants when with minutes left they seized on a late chance to be victorious and win 4 - 3.

A great battling effort from the young Stags who more than played there part in this game.
