Why was only one set of doors open at the South end of the West Stand at the end of the Newport game. Very congested getting out but had there been an emergency could have been a real problem.
Who decides which doors are chained and padlocked. Surely the safety officer should investigate and get sufficient doors open to avoid any crush. Hopefully there will be more open for the Colchester game.

I thought the same, surely you can’t padlock a fire exit?!

The same doors were locked throughout pre season too. I thought maybe it was just because it is a lower crowd for pre season but if this is now the norm it's yet another great idea by our SAG...

I hadn’t noticed this at the pre season friendlies otherwise I would have done something about it.
I was absolutely shocked by this and took a photograph of the chain round the crash bars as well as the queue of people up the stairwell. I have emailed our esteemed safety officer asking for an explanation of procedures and how this could have happened.
It is things like this that lead to tragedy when something else happens. Many of the deaths at Valley Parade would not have happened if the exit gates had not been locked and there are numerous examples from non sporting venues. There are also instances of stairwell deaths- most notably the 1971 Ibrox disaster (66 deaths and over 200 injured) probably caused by someone falling and causing a chain reaction.
While some may think this is melodramatic, these things have happened.
I only emailed Mr Lakin today but will let you know of what response I get (if any!)

Absolutely true. I have been to various places (clubs, factories, etc.) where if they do use padlocks etc to secure premises then they have to display them on a labelled board with hooks before they are allowed to open. The modern way of securing fire exits is with magnetic locks which automatically realease if the fire alarm goes off but can also be released by a key switch or from a central control point.
In either case all fire routes should be checked for security or obstructions prior to letting staff/ members of the public into the premises.

Feel a capacity reduction coming on if SAG get a sniff of it.

Can a fan report issues to be tabled at the next SAG meeting or does the club write the agenda.
Is there a fan representative on the SAG

It’s run by the District/County councils I think, give the club a right of reply a remedy first though!

The club ARE part of SAG! It’s made up of several groups. The club, police, fire, council etc. So technically SAG already know about it (well some of it anyway!)

They are being negligent then. Potentially criminally negligent.

I won`t go to any away games any more due to the crush risk at County and Chesterfield last season. Gross negligence springs to mind!

As mentioned above and Ibrox stairway disaster also mentioned in my email to Alan Lakin
I would have been at Valley Parade if I hadn't been refereeing a 5 a side tournament that day. Knew one person who died and several with quite bad burns.

You don't go to away games anymore because of the crush risk ? Blimey
There is more chance of me going down a chimney and a squirrel running up my trouser leg and biting off my remaining testicle than being crushed in division 2
Although I do agree that locking any exit doors/gates is a scandal
