Christmas points tally

Postby Elkesley Stag » Fri Dec 22, 2023 5:38 pm

Win at home and draw away is a good benchmark to have for a promotion chasing team , so 8 points from our 4 festive games should be considered a decent return , but looking at the opponents for the first 3 I can’t help thinking they are games we should be winning, the 4th game against Stockport obviously looks the most challenging. Before us though Stockport have Notts (6th) at home tonight , Barrow (2nd) away and Bradford (14th) away. They have won one out of the last 4 , but to be fair it was a cracking win.

8 points would be a good return from the 4 games but to be honest I think I would be disappointed with less than 9.

Anything more than 8pts would be good and keeps up the 2pts per game average Got to be achievable and still have the two home games in hand

We play 24th, 18th, 19th and 1st (as it stands, obviously)

We all know what playing sides near/in the relegation spots is like. 8 points would be champions form (W2 D2) so I won't be disappointed if it's less than 9. Less than 6 definitely. In my opinion.

From previous mansfield seasons you know what’s coming when we play bottom of the league away, especially when they’ve just sacked their manager.

However, this side has put bogey sides accrington and harrogate away scoring 7 in the process, so there’s renewed optimism we can win the game.

I think we’re capable of winning the next three… from an impact perspective not losing at Stockport would be great.

Ever the optimist but we all know if we’re at our best it’s achievable.

I think we’ll win tomorrow but don’t think either Grimsby or Doncaster will be as straight forward as we’d like. Stockport have quite a few injuries so a threadbare squad playing a 4th game in 10 days against us, might be a good time to play them. 8 points would be great, anything more than that is excellent

We often find tiredness is a problem due to our style of play being high intensity. I imagine our record on Tuesdays after playing Saturday isn't the greatest and I think the Tranmere game was a good example of that. If the games were all a week apart I would back us to get 8 points minimum, however we've got 4 games in 10 days and so think it will be much harder. If we use the squad sufficiently we should still be able to get the 8 points but it won't be as simple as some people are making out.

If we are to keep up with the top three, who are in good form at the moment, we need to be winning games. Easier said than done though.

Then we need to make our squad depth count and use the most players over the period.

Working off the principle that 2 points a game on average definitely gets us promotion then 9 points from the next 4 games gets us to 48 points from 24 games. Obviously there’s about 6 or 7 points slack in that overall total so scope to drop one or two.
5 points from the next 4 games will mean 24 points from the last 12, so even that won’t be a disaster.

10 PTS from the next 4 games is definitely doable.
3 of the teams are in 18th, 19th and 24th in the league and we should be winning these if we have serious eyes on the autos.
"But", nobody is entitled to anything so hopefully it works out that way.

3 points in the bag and another of our bogey sides put to the sword, so happy we've done the business against these sides :D

Good call there Scotsstag
Bet you weren't quite counting on the points coming how they have. But fair does you were the only one to call this before Christmas.
