Nigel Clough on Lucas Akins:
"He's got a small fracture just below his eye. We're hoping he'll have an operation and may just miss Saturday and Salford if all goes well."

Wrexham face Mansfield and Port Vale in cup matches
By Richard Williams

PHIL PARKINSON says he will utilise his squad for Wrexham's next two matches in cup competitions.

The League Two programme is put on hold when the Reds face Mansfield Town at Field Mill in the FA Cup first round on Saturday before Port Vale visit The STóK Cae Ras next Tuesday for the final EFL Trophy group game.

Although Wrexham are unbeaten in eight matches in all competitions and up to third in the table, there has been no shortage of injures with Aaron Hayden, Ryan Barnett, Eoghan O'Connell, Jordan Tunnicliffe and Steven Fletcher currently sidelined.

Paul Mullin and James McClean are available for the two cup ties - Wrexham have already qualified for the knockout stages in the EFL Trophy - but the duo will serve one-match bans when the Reds return to league action at home to Gillingham on Saturday November 11.

That’s bad news about Lucas but not entirely surprising. It was always going to be more than a badly swollen eye as he simply wouldn’t have come off the pitch for that.

Hope he gets well soon.

Given the battering he takes every game, we should not bring him back too soon. He is a big loss considering the way we play.

Hope his surgery goes well and he recovers quickly.

Bowery back up top for me in Akins absence. He won’t do the same job as him but he’s the best option we have available to hold the ball up a bit and bring others in to play. The team needs the ball to stick when it’s played forwards. Johnson to slot back in at right back.

We'll put out a fairly strong team I'd imagine. We've a fairly lengthy injury list as you've seen, out of those mentioned above probably only Hayden will make Saturday. Given their league suspensions McLean and Mullin will play.

The KO time is absurd, 19:45 on a Saturday night and its on TV? No wonder we've only sold 600 odd tickets. We've had a lot of away games recently too.
The FA Cup last season was a great run but against Sheff Utd we lost 2 of our centre backs in the first half and neither kicked a ball again all season. So while I want to win obviously going but isn't a disaster, for either side. Hope we play better than the league game!

The KO time is going to put a load of home fans off too, especially if the weather is as horrible as it is.

Safe travels!
