We’re a better side than these, they’ve gotten 2 points from their last 8 games (only scoring 5 goals in total) and have just been beaten at home by Cheltenham fgs. 2-0 win, stags march one step closer to our European adventure

We shouldn’t be counting any chickens for this one. Vale are a league 1 club and the importance of the tie should be enough to motivate any team to play out of their skins. A quarter final place is a huge achievement for any lower league club and both teams should be giving their all.

A close fought game with one goal in it and it could go to penalties. I’m hoping we come out on top but I’m not as confident as other games.

We wont have akins but i still fancy us to win confidence must be sky high ,though penalties might be needed

Akins will be a big miss, it'll be interesting to see how we line up. I think it will be a tight game, wouldn't be surprised if it goes to penalties again.

Will be interesting to see how we do with a midfield this time rather than the massive lack of one that we had at Wembley.

With what rides on this game I can't help but think vale will come out on top.

0 - 1

Run has to come to an end sometimes, akins experience would have been vital.

Swan in for Akins, this is the game he comes good as the team play to his and DKD's movement and we win in 90 minutes. 1-0

Akins is absolutely crucial to how we set up.
We don’t have anyone else that can do his job.
A combative forward should be top of the January shopping list.

I think our most natural replacement for Lucas is Jordan Bowery and I wouldn’t be against him given a go up to alongside DKD or Swan with Johnson waiting to come back in at right back. I don’t think he offers the same physicality as Lucas but he’s not exactly lightweight, he’s certainly no slouch and up top is where he has spent the vast majority of his career.

I can't see us signing anyone in January unless someone is out for the rest of the season

I can't see anyone who is a 'specialist' in that role joining us knowing Akins is first choice. Any matches Akins misses will just have to be filled by whatever we have. For me, that is Bowery at the moment.

Hope this game goes ahead, set to have bad weather now, right until Kick off Saturday. If Wrexham game goes ahead, i'd be amazed.

When the draw was first made, Vale were in and around the playoffs and looking a solid L1 team. Since then, however, they've nose-dived down the table and not won a league game. With our confidence sky high and the team looking so hard to beat, we have to go into this one without any fear whatsoever. With the home crowd and an electric atmosphere under the lights, I'm confident of a Stags victory and history being made. COYS!

Vale fans seem to be very despondent about this fixture now, but I think without Akins, we need somebody to tie up the defenders and bring the midfield in to play. I think the views above about Bowery are spot on, but have sneaking suspicion that Gale will get the start. The reason for this is that Clough knows we should create chances, but also we have a fairly solid & settled back 4 who aren't conceding many goals...

They are League 1 for a reason, but this Stags team are playing at that level, so I think it should be a close game.... unless they completely collapse.

If Akins is unavailable, I wouldn’t be totally against moving Bowery up front and bringing Johnson in at full back. Personally, though, I am a big believer in if it’s not broke don’t fix it and would stick with the current back 4 and play Gale up top. If Maris is also injured then I would definitely leave Bowery at full back and play Gale and Swan and drop DKD back in to midfield.

met office forecast for tomorrow is not too bad after some early morning heavy rain. Unless the forecast changes significantly, I don't see a problem for tomorrow.
