Fredding on Thursday doomed the game
Theirs not to reason why
Theirs but to do and die
Into the valley of Death
Rode the Six Hundred

Apparently, the dam that overflowed just yards from the ground which sent water flowing down onto Nottingham road, a busy road into Mansfied, isn't enough of a reason that the game was called off for the safety of fans.
They're upset that Clipstone went ahead. Did the dam next to their ground overflow as well? sending flood water like river down onto their major roads?

With our style of passing play do we really want a churned up pitch? It was right to be postponed.

The dam wasn't overflowing. River levels were normal and Nottingham road open. The reason for postponement was nothing to do with that, but was that the pitch was a bit wet at 9 am and the weather forecast was for heavy rain all morning. The heavy rain didn't turn up in the event, but Mez pointed out that the pitch would have cut up badly and he was pleased that the match was called off.

Fair enough.
What I was trying to get at was heavy rain made the dam overflow and more heavy rain was forecast. Maybe someone wanted to play it safe.
If the worst happened and we got very heavy rain and thousands of people needed rescuing questions would be asked.

So you're saying that the groundsman decides whether a football league game proceeds??
