Drove to the ground to have a look at the training kit, (shop closed by the way, the club should’ve informed people of this). Roads completely fine, one big puddle near imperial laundry but no standing water on, or around, Quarry Lane. Pitch looks fine, but fully understand the precaution about preserving it for the future, and I suppose if there is an option to give the squad an extra rest in light of the Harrogate match, then the club took it. When we play the rescheduled fixture, we could have more squad options to choose from.

So disappointed the game has been called off, the weekend without a Stags game seems dull.
But it is what it is, and safety comes first.
On the plus side i can enjoy our last result for another 3 days and out unbeaten run goes on.

What appears to be being overlooked on here is that Mansfield Town have not called the match off; the referee has. And, in doing so, he will have consulted all sorts of outside authorities about the weather, spectator safety, etc, as well as speaking to both clubs. Some of the spurious reasons on here for the postponement will have had absolutely nothing to do with the referee's decision.

Looks like the actual reason for postponing the match is that the pitch is waterlogged. Nothing to do with access to the ground. I'm in Mansfield and there's hardly any sign of flooding, beyond a few puddles. So it's about pitch maintenance. As Mez explained.

I think it's funny that there are grown adults on this forum & beyond who having lived in the UK all their lives still don't understand that in a country with a maritime climate the weather can be very different in locations only a few miles apart. :D
Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.

Yep. Him saying that he thinks ‘many pitches across the country will be ruined for the rest of the season’ is telling and that they called it off with all parties conscious about the pitch. Can see the long-term thinking behind it.

What this mindset will mean though is that it’s more likely that there will be more games this season where we’re the only home side/one of very few homes sides in the EFL to call the game off as we want to protect the pitch even if the pitch itself is probably playable.

Think it’s pretty concerning how many fans think that a game can be called off to “protect the pitch even though it’s playable”. That would not pass with the FA.

It's not the fans saying that. It's the groundsman.

I’ve seen the tweet and it’s 2 separate comments. Or that’s how I read it. There will be so many pitches ruined for the rest of the season. Then another comment mine is off today with all parties conscious of the pitch ie the pitch wasn’t deemed playable by all parties.

You can’t call a football game off because the pitch is playable but it might get dug up.

Could be in the back of groundsmans head but that wouldn’t be put forward as the official reasoning

And just to clarify I think it’s a good decision, a dug up rough bobbly pitch wouldn’t suit us at all. Needs to be kept in best condition we can keep it in

I think that Mez infers that the ref may have deemed it potentially playable, but as it was marginal gave the casting vote to the groundsman.
Had the club been desperate to play, he'd have sacrificed the pitch. But we already have two matches this week, so an early postponement isn't a big deal and means that we still have a pristine surface going forward.

I think it’s a clever decision Aslong as we win Tuesday night. Could find ourselves mid table Tuesday night

you can't call a game off to ' preserve the pitch for the future' or to 'give the squad extra rest'. The pitch is playable and the surrounding areas are fine. Scandalous decision by the referee

We all know how these things work, if the club wanted the game on, it would’ve been on. If they didn’t, and the decision was on a knife-edge, then I’m sure concerns about the danger of surrounding areas and future forecasts would’ve been expressed, with one eye on giving the club a slight advantage.

I'm sure all he poeple demanding the game should be played would be queueing up to complain about the state of the pitch afterwards. No you can't officially call it off to look after the pitch, but you can emphasis other issues if that's what you want. I'm sure the groundsman, manager ans chairman were in contact and full agreement if this was the case. If that is what they all think is in the best interests of the club this season then so be it. It's not like we get zero points, we will play the game later.

Forest Green wouldn't want it churned up either.

It's perfectly good edible grass.

Hindsight is hindsight… but considering how little rain we’ve had since the pitch inspection and how quickly it dried up around the stadium this morning, we quite clearly could have played today and it would have been absolutely fine. At least we’ll have a pristine pitch next weekend whereas half of the EFL will be playing on a cabbage patch for the rest of the season.
