David Sharpe leaves Mansfield town

Postby bobbystagsfan » Mon Jul 03, 2023 8:03 am

Mansfield Town Football Club can announce that David Sharpe has left his position as chief executive officer to focus on his family business interests.

Back to Wigan maybe? This is a shame

would seem the rumours of him going were true then, interesting times ahead, strap in people.

I trust JR to already have someone in place as it’s a really critical time with signings & contracts

That's a shame. Good luck david.

Id rather the Radfords show an interest again than have a CEO though personally.

A real shame as things have moved forward under his tenure but there is also much to do when Carolyn Radford resumes her role as CEO - hopefully her coming back will kill off the rumours about the Radfords losing interest.

I've heard that over the few years he's been here. It's not one I subscribe to either.

Perhaps they will leave it to the Clough Brothers to run the team and CR to run the club and build a new Bishop Street Stand.

Boring

I thought he was a solid, professional person to have around and was doing a good job. He seemed to have his finger on the pulse and could look at things objectively. Think it’s a blow to lose him

Be specific - how was he ‘arrogant’ ?

He just carries himself in a very professional manner so some of our fans label him a ‘Tory’ and ‘arrogant’

No loss?by the mere fact he's gone signals another negative and unambitious corner turned?clearly unhappy with the direction the club are heading in be part of his reasoning?it doesn't take 10 seasons + to get out of league 2 nor does it take this long to develop the Bishop Street that quite frankly is more than overdue,a suggestion maybe that he felt his hands were being tied?.....worrying times!

Some truth in that. I think they court the advice of people who aren't necessarily experts too.

However absent bosses make for absent minded staff. Good to have the paymasters present.

As for Sharpe's football brain. I watched him oversee a very minor net improvement from relegation threatened to threatening the playoffs. Hardly meteoric. The other stuff Carolyn could quite easily implement herself, ie ticketing system, cashless etc...

Carolyn needs to step up now. That role holds a huge responsibility in keeping the club moving forwards.
Obviously she knows the role inside out from her previous experience, but circumstances were different for her then as she lived here and could be around the club frequently. For me in order to drive standards you need somebody in charge that is going to be present.

18/19 when the Radfords moved away things slowly started going downhill. We missed out on promotion, and 2 terrible seasons followed when we had Dempster & Coughlan, with nobody over here running the club. ‘You can run the club from anywhere these days’ - it’s not the same in my opinion.

… Sharpe comes in and things start to turn around. We get rid of Coughlan and he gets in a proper manager. Everything has been more professional. We sign players on new contracts before letting them go for nothing, we sell at the right time, you could go on. For me it’s absolutely no coincidence.

Sharpe will have been doing a lot of leg work on ticket systems, kits, all player negotiations, bits like these new LED boards, the lot. It needs somebody who is going to be on it every day

Blimey - some of the comments on here are mind blowing. The club has moved to greater sustainability, built a stronger squad and academy, broken records both on and off the pitch and sorted out the ticketing system.
I think we should be very grateful for what he has done during his time with us

I think it is a backward step for the club.

Are the Radfords going too forsake their tax haven and return to live in UK, seems unlikely?

Managing from afar with little football knowledge could scupper our progress so far.

Not a good day for MTFC imo, would have thought a footballing person would have been hired as David Sharpes replacement and not gone back to yesteryear's ways?

We have no idea of the dynamics behind the scenes at the club so it’s difficult to see if the reasons given are correct or a smoke screen.

There have been many improvements under Sharpe and I’m sure there have been a number of sticking points along the way.

Rumours will always abound but our thoughts will always be pure speculation. I’d just like to thank him and wish him well but I’m sure the club will continue to progress without him.

Wonder if this is where Steve Chettle comes into the equation, with Carolyn taking up her role as CEO and Steve perhaps acting as a director of football? Or maybe he’s not involved at all

That is a huge shame. He was an excellent CEO with the combination of both business and football acumen.

This is definitely a backwards step for the Club.
