The Stags final first team pre-season game ended in a very comfortable 3-1 win over local Conference North side Alfreton Town. Two goals in the first half, the first a fine right foot strike from Matt Hamshaw inside the first ten minutes, the second a looping header at the far post from Barker gave the Stags a comfortable lead. However, Alfreton struck back after a corner was not cleared and the ball was hammered home from close range by the Alfreton centre half. Michael Boulding twice tested the home keeper, first from a header then from close range - in truth with a little more sharpness he would have hoped to have scored both. Brown also saw a shot from close range saved by the legs of the keeper.
Half Time: 1-2 The Stags made 5 changes at half time and took a short while to get back into their stride but with Muggleton a virtual spectator the half was almost totally dominated by the visitors, Reet finished well with a far post header to make it 3-1 and then sub Beardsley missed several fine chances to extend the lead. More changes followed throughout the half, but the chances still went begging. Lots more excellent preparation for the Stags who really should have won this game even more comfortably. Hamshaw and Mullins again shone on the right, with the former being the Stags best player. Trialist Joe Kendrick came on at half time and did OK but in truth was barely tested defensively. Man of the Match: Matt Hamshaw |
