Good luck to them all, great to have such good news about our youth players at the moment.

Hill's profile says that his grandfather Paul Matthews played for the Stags in the 70s - bit before my time but interesting nonetheless.

Paul Matthews was a terrific player, unsung in many ways but a vital part of what I believe was our best ever team.

Matthews and Hodgson were superb in our midfield in the 70's. Let's hope these new lads are our next generation. Don't know much about them . Caine is a striker I believe . Where do the others play ?

It would be nice to have an update on the lads who signed contracts last year.

Paul Matthews is my favourite all time Stags player, not flashy but a great tackler and seldom gave the ball away.
On one away trip my mate(a Hodgson fan)took a poll of the supporters on the way to an away match.Who is best, Result Hodgson 50 Matthews 2
A clear win for Matthews then as my opinion counts for 60 people,American style weighted voting in practice.

Paul Matthews has been down to Field Mill a lot watching his grandson Ethan playing for the Stags Youth team. He's a harsh critic like all Dads and Grandads!!

Great to see

Yes Mathews was a clever player
Not robust physically and fiery in the tackle and recall him as clever player and a very good midfielder with great vision and passing skills
Anybody else recall that of him ??

Really positive to see three players coming through again. They are ones we have been aware of and encouraging to see they are considerednstrong enough to make it to the next stage of their career.

These are exactly my recollection of him. Didn't look like a footballer but liked to mix it in midfield and his vision was something special

Paul Matthews and Gordon Hodgson were both very good players, but as a midfield duo were tremendous. With John Lathan on one side and Jimmy McCaffrey on the other, we could play 4-4-2, 4-3-3 or 4-2-4 as required. And Terry Eccles and Ray Clarke weren't bad strikers either !!!!

Paul dislocated his shoulder at Preston. He had an operation which left him with a 12 inch scar. The other players then called him the zip.Ray Clarke was one of our best ever strikers.

Eccles and Clarke in my view formed our best striking partnership , certainly since I started in 1966
