I think Clough would like Riley, he can defend and has got a decent cross on him.

Bit harsh considering he's played all of 10 minutes for us... injuries happen.

Not to mention he lost a child at birth, he's had a tough year.

Whilst the notion of sitting on my arse doing nothing and earning £1000's a week is appealing, one needs a purpose. To have been at your new employers for 10 minutes and barely contribute a thing must be tough, then to lose a baby too... Yep tough for him mentally, have some compassion.

The loss of the baby was when he was at Shrewsbury in March 2018

It doesn’t matter when it was, you never get over something like that and as he’s one of us now he deserves a bit more support and compassion than what is being shown here.

Ok I take that back, It's not relevant. Sod Joe Riley, what a waste of money! Just like Paul Anderson, Matty Blair, Daryl CLare, Matthew Tipton, Luke Foster, George Pilkington before him. WHy do we spend so much money on duds???????????

Spot on.

He's a nice lad and did well when he played for us. Can't believe the above comments, bunch of absolute raspberries

Joe Riley has had a successful career and came here with a good pedigree, having played for Bolton in the premier league, and was in the Bury team that won promotion to league 1
at 29 getting a A,C,L injury is very serious, and his contract runs out in June 2021, so without any other family problems, and during this pandemic, he must be going through a tough time.
So i would like to think he has our best wishes and all goes well for him and his family

100% spot on.
A fully fit Joe riley would surely be welcomed by cloughie... Hope that he gets his chance to prove his worth.
Give him a short term extension or at the very least let him train with us until he can sort something out.

His injury record was always a worry. Very unfortunate that they have blighted his career.

Joe has been out for a year now.Does anyone know how far away is he from playing.I thought he looked decent and could solve our right back problem.

He last played over a year ago, but his injury was sustained in August.

I completely agree with the club supporting Joe through a period of his life which must have been horrendous.

Purely as a player, I never really saw anything better than what we already had in White and Gordon. This might have been because he was coming on another injury, which is a concern in itself.

Well done to Nigel for giving him the chance to earn a contract in pre-season. Possibly him or Clarke?

If Riley signs next season, what's the betting he's crocked more than he plays.

His Wiki says he is an injury prone playrr. Knees seem very fragile.
It's just my opinion that if I was looking for a reliable fit right back and knowing his history then I'd look elsewhere

It's not about 'that's the spirit' at all. With the knee trouble he's had he'll be crocked more than he plays if signed.
