I don't think other European leagues will be postponing their leagues anytime soon with the rearranged Euros coming up. Other nations seem to have a better handle of the situation and a more obedient public. the FA will want the season to continue else British players will have a huge amount of games to catch up on in May and will severely disrupt preparations for the Euros. European players will want to go on international duty as normal.

Any postponement of the season will lead to the Euros being cancelled. However I can't see UEFA cancelling the tournament on the count of 3 nations incompetence. More likely they'd disqualify England, Scotland and/or wales.

How the English game survives the coming months depends greatly on the behaviour and culture of the players. For every player that adheres strictly to the guidelines to make the most of a privileged of short lived career there are the brain dead raspberry that throw how we are forced to live back in the faces of the compliant players and ourselves.

Look at the recent press headlines Premier League players attending parties with games being called off, Benjamin Mendy’s party where girls were ordered from a modeling agency just three days before City’s game with Everton was called off due to positive Covid tests, Sheff Utd players crashing cars allegedly through drink on nights out even Oxford Utd youth team players attending parties. These are the ones we know of.

I accept that players and training staff may catch it through day to day ‘normal’ contact but why do they feel the need to put themselves at risk and affect their employers in such a great manner.

Though how we can scathe the players for ruining the game, our game, our escapism from the times we live in when clubs, Oxford excepted, do not publicly admonish the players or even facilitate it. Celtic, whilst the nation is in lockdown, have abused the Elite sport travel exception, designed to allow European Competitions to take place, to take the team on a jolly to Dubai.

For this season to finish, and hopefully it will, it will take the hard work, diligence, sacrifice and compliance of many and against selfish pig ignorance of others.

Quite simple really. These young lads are wealthy enough to be set for life. They don't really care. They can afford to have a party, pay the fine and even if they catch covid, it's unlikely to have any serious impact on them.

Given that these times are quite boring and that younger people are more likely to be risk takers, it's not that surprising to me that they are starting to push the rules.

I read piece recently about pandemics. It's new to all of us, but it's not new to humanity, we've been here before. All the current signs point to another 'roaring twenties', likely to start in around 2024. Now the vaccines are on the horizon people (not just rich footballers) are starting to make up for lost time. It's history repeating itself.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

Club managements have a big part to play to ensure that their players abide by the rules and guidance, if football is to continue.

We know that most footballers are young, working class men, many of whom can behave a little recklessly and ignore what is routinely expected of them.

Hopefully, the League can carry on with certain restrictions and with the help of testing and the vaccination programme that is coming.

Fingers crossed.

It's going to be interesting to see the difference of positive tests compared to the start of season.
Can help with the understanding of the spread, do we have an XPositive table for different clubs.

That's great news, can see a lot of players missing games in the weeks to come.
At least close contacts of the infected player won't need to isolate for 10 days, might have to miss training til next clear test though.

112 positive tests out of 3507, think it was 3 positive pre season.
It's going to be interesting next week, let's hope it will be a decline but an R rate of 1.4 would make it 170.

So that is 1 in 31, whereas the ONS survey of the country is only 1 in 50.

So playing professional football is more risky than normal living.

Hardly surprising when they’re snogging each other every time they score a goal

Exactly Dan, much is made publicly about the efforts clubs go to, ie traveling individually, washing their own kit, face masks in public, not mixing and then the first time a deflected header bounces in off the post with more luck than ability they are behaving like they are at one of Caligula’s orgies in Ancient Rome.

Most goals at our level, aren’t that special and don’t warrant a pile on of orgiastic proportions. If the goal is ‘that good’ and the adrenalin is pumping why can’t the players resurrect the Mick Channon ‘solo Windmill’ or if the goal is that good, the Matt le Tissier ‘stand there and bask in glory stance’, after all his goals really were something special.

At the end of a game, why al the back slapping, faux hugging and shaking of hands? In the environment I work in handshaking when meeting on site is now a thing of the past, something frowned upon.

When was the last time people have hugged relatives and loved ones, especially those in care homes. At a time when most are trying so hard do we have to have it publicly spoilt by a few?

It’s not just when they score. I noticed the Salford group huddle prior to kick off on Tuesday and thought it inappropriate at the time.

If the FA are serious about cracking down on inappropriate behaviour, they need to make it plain to clubs they shouldn’t be hugging each other prior to kick off. Even if there is little danger from these bonding hugs it gives the wrong impression to fans who can’t see their elderly relatives under any circumstances and just rubs their noses into the fact football is being treated differently from the rest of us.

Footballers need to understand the rules and the privileged position they’re in. We’ve seen the pics of moronic idiots partying etc. If any player breaches the rule, they should be removed from the squad for a period equal to a period of isolation and fined twice the amount of time in wages, with the money going to a worthy cause such as a food back etc.
