Maynard just did a brilliant run and but of skill I've not seen in a stags shirt for a while

Every time he touched the ball I just expected it go wrong. Lovely bit of skill.
We certainly look more likely to score. And, other than Rawson losing his man, I think we look solid across the back. Much more improved

Lapslie does very well to win the ball in midfield and ran for award. Plays the ball to Maynard who shows some class skill to turn his man and his low cross is cleared from 2-3 yards out.
Stags have a free kick out on the right wing near the sideline level with the edge of the area. McLaughlan takes it and Rawson can in head up and keeper claims.
Bowery does very well to win the ball but come to nothing
It's got a bit better I missed what Bowery did after he won the ball I was looking at my phone.

Clarke has a shot from 25 or so yards. Keeper palms straight to Maynard but Maynard can't control it. Goal kick.

Colchester players putting a good shift in , supporting each other everywhere .looks like they have 8 defenders and 8 attackers .can’t see them keeping this up for 90 plus minutes.if we can score first they may well fold .

Started well and came back into it in the last 5 minutes but Colchester should really be winning with that chance / maybe had more time on his hands than he thought

Pretty even game so far.
Feel Clarke needs to do more to get the ball of the defenders. Missing Maris’ bravery in that position.

I noticed the players are heading into the West stand towards the North stand end at half time. Where are the players getting changed? I'd have thought we'd use our familiar changing room at home and send the away teams to get changed in the West stand foyer.

Bit scrappy from us with odd glimpse of promise, would like to see Lapslie get more ball as he threatens every time he does, Colchester are pretty to watch and close down quickly, but overall very even

Both sides happy to keep the ball and knock it about. Pretty even for the first 20 then we went a bit long giving possession away with Colchester having a good spell. But we finished the half strong. Neither side quite gambling with enough men in the box. See who fancies the win in the 2nd half.

Good half, good half.
Not much goal action. We're getting forward quickly but
our decent crosses not finding the finish they deserve.
Colchester comfortable on the ball, a lot more than us.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

More room in the hospitality suite. When we had the dressing rooms our squad was split between two rooms and Coughlan had to do his team talks separately.

Not sure there is any great chemistry between Maynard and Bowery both trying, but can’t see them working together tonight or is it just me ?

Bowery and Maynard in the side on merit, but i reckon this game is made for Cook. If we had someone attacking the crosses we'd have scored by now.
If the game continues as it is then I'd get him on the last 30, currently at the expense of Maynard

The difference in tempo between Clough and Coughlan is like the difference in tempo between Pantera and Gregorian chanting!

These look a far better side than Barrow and we're holding our own. Shudder to think what they would have done to us a monty ago.

Both working really hard. Need to use our subs in this game. We will need fresh legs up top for the last 20.

Not a bad half really. We look solid at the back, apart from their clear header which wasn't offside either.
Obviously they're having a lot of the ball but when we get it down and play, we look good as well and probably edge it in terms of looking more threatening.
I'd like to see Lapslie go back to his advanced role, he's much more effective.
Charsley looks lively, interesting to see him and McLaughlin switch, I can only think that was to try to get Stephen in the game a little more and would expect them to swap back after half time.
We need to get the ball into Maynard and Bowery a bit more but I'm still quietly confident.
Colchester do look very easy on the eye but sometimes its possession for possessions sake.
Come on lads, keep a clean sheet and nick it 1-0.

The pitch is very heavy and the game will open up as the players get tired. We have to make sure we don’t get caught for pace at the end and Reid and Sinclair may be worth 20 - 30 minutes second half to have a run at them.
