Sorry if this has been posted before but I haven’t seen it. Just been reading an interview with bamford he has done with Jamie redknapp. In it bamford said he went to speak to cotterill when at forest about a pathway to the first team. Cotterill said your going to Mansfield why we try and sell some of the other strikers. He was happy to come and get the experience but then Chelsea came in for him and decided to go there in case he came here and it didn’t go well and then when he went back they thought if you can’t do it at Mansfield then you won’t here.
Interesting to hear but also made me wonder how close we have come to other players who have gone on to top level careers

I've heard we were very close to signing Vardy when Cox was here, but the Fleetwood chairman offered him a house or something like that.
Think Cox also said no to Andre Grey from luton around the same time.
No idea how true these things are, just what I've heard in the past.

What was the name of that player Keith curle had on trial and didn't sign him because he was too good for our level?
I think he went on to be an international player. His name escapes me

Only player I can think of was Shane Smeltz, who played for NZ I believe.
Though I'm sure we signed him, so what do i know
If i look in pain it's because i'm thinking

Maceo Rigters? Didn't have the best career, but I'm sure he would have been more than adequate for the level we were at.

I think it may have been Damian Delaney.

Ita from the 2004 pre season when we played wolves and lost 3-1. Think we had 3 foreign trialist play for us abd ine really stood out. Thats when curle said we wont sign him as hes too good for us.

The Andre Gray stuff was covered here by Tippy Tappy
viewtopic.php?p=716575#p716575I tried very hard to persuade Paul Cox to sign Jack Marriott in 2014 when he'd been on loan at Woking. Cox wouldn't. Marriott later signed for Derby for at least £3 million (

I wonder if any of the 15,426 players Holdsworth signed while here went on to do anything

I'm sure Bamford would have been happy to come to Stags with him being fairly local - I think he's from out Tuxford way.
I backed my car into a cop car the other day, he just drove off, sometimes life's okay...

We are in a great position for taking local talent on loan. We've got Forest, Leicester and Derby all local. Derby and forest would probably want to help Clough out.

Mike Galloway was released by Ian Greaves - then went on to play for Celtic and Scotland. Shame his career went downhill after us lol
