Local boy makes good.

I see Derby County's Lee Buchanan has been called up to Gareth Southgate's England squad.
Proud to see another local success story. Lee's from Edwinstowe. Just felt it deserved a mention

Very good Defender who hasn't looked out of place in the first team, Think he's only 18/19. Well done to him

The last I heard we don't scout local footballers, we pick up our kids from exit trials after they've been released from other clubs.

I went to a local academy when I was 11, agreed after being spotted playing in Huthwaite/derbyshire leagues... stags never sent anyone to watch because we weren't in the Mansfield youth league.

I'm not sure but I think t'club have many teams playing down the age groups from U7s upwards. I think in the summer they ask kids to come for trials every year and those who show promise get offered a chance. Not everyone wants to leave their mates in the team they were playing with before the trial though. I may be wrong.

They have only had their own under age school kid teams in last few months after being award the higher academy category

Not posted on here for a while .. I personally enquired about young Buchanan but was told he wouldn’t come to Mansfield as we didn’t have an academy . This was before the RH was built. Fair play to the lad he has gone on and made it at derby.
Hopefully now we will attract the better players in our area being Cat 3 and have the facility to back it .
We do have a scouting system now run by our academy and do try and attract the best we can . There will always be some that we miss out on but hopefully our net is very much wider than it was before .

Thanks for the response Steve, goes to show what guesswork others do on here without the facts. Personally I can’t blame the lad and as you say now we have the facilities we may attract them, the likes of Sinclair, Clarke and Law getting match time this week can only add to the attractiveness.
