We might be rock bottom at the weekend... then going into a game against potential still table toppers morecambe the week after :?

Concerned this will happen and then the government will buckle to pressure regarding a ‘circuit break’, which will inevitably go on longer than the proposed couple of weeks, and we’ll be left down there for months on end.

Side note, was there any rules put in to place for what would happen if the season was curtailed again?

FT: Cheltenham Town 1 Grimsby Town 3 (HT: 1-2)
An excellent away win for the Mighty Mariners who scored their first goals of the season to stop Cheltenham going top of the league and to push the Stags down to 22nd. The turning point in the game was in the 39th minute when the Robins' keeper, Josh Griffiths, let James Tilley's shot from the edge of the area go straight through his hands into the top of the net. Cheltenham dominated possession in the 2nd half as they had all game (60% possession) but they could not find an equaliser. They were restricted to a long shot from Liam Sercombe and then in the 87th minute James McKeown made a great save from Sercombe again. Grimsby grabbed a late 3rd goal in the 94th minute to seal the game when the Cheltenham defence stopped as James Hanson was clearly offside but Owen Windsor on loan from West Brom ran through to put the ball past the onrushing Griffiths.

The first half had been very entertaining with Cheltenham making the running and looking very dangerous from set pieces and Ben Tozer's long throws assisted by cunningly placed towels. Steve Evans would not have been happy. Cheltenham should have had a penalty when Luke Waterfall clearly stopped George Lloyd's shot going in by pushing it with his arm against the post. It was a penalty and a sending off but referee, Paul Howard, missed it. Grimsby were not afraid to play long balls to their quick and small front three of James Tilley (22) (on loan from Brighton) Owura Edwards (20) (on loan from Bristol City); and Montel Gibson (22). They were very lively on the counter attack and Owura Edwards was the star of the show. He is a real player and he gave Grimsby the lead after catching Will Boyle in possession on the edge of the area and curling a left foot shot into the corner of the net. Cheltenham equalised when George Lloyd pounced on a Luke Waterfall error and played the ball to Liam Sercombe inside the area on the left and he squared the ball for Andy Williams ("I love you baby") to slot home his third goal of the season. Montel Gibson could have had four goals for Grimsby. He had one ruled out for offside, went down after rounding the keeper but didn't get the penalty and then blasted two wide.

Grimsby played a 3-4-3 formation against Cheltenham's usual 3-5-2. Ian Holloway said after the game he deliberately played a quick three up front to get at Cheltenham's three centre backs (Raglan, Tozer and Boyle) as normally they do not have players on top of them. Grimsby's defence of Ludwig Ohman, Luke Waterfall and Matty Pollock were not great at the back especially in the first half and certainly not as good on the ball as Raglan or Boyle who are prepared to push much higher up the pitch.

Ian Holloway's usual entertaining interview is on BBC Radio Humberside 22m 30s

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p08sxlgd

Matty Blair played for Cheltenham and Chris Clements was on the bench. Matt Green was on the bench for Grimsby. Entertaining pre-match discussion by BBC Radio Gloucester commentators on Matt Green's "fairly unsuccessful" loan spell at Cheltenham. 23 appearances and no goals. They did point out he had scored over 147 goals since his loan spell at Cheltenham in 2011.

Just keeping my Cheltenham match reports together

Cheltenham Town 1 Scunthorpe United 0
I watched the first 30 minutes of this game last night and then put it on pause and watched the rest of it after the Stags game. It was a scrappy win for Cheltenham against a very poor Scunthorpe United side who were described by the BBC Radio Gloucestershire commentators in the first 20 minutes as the worst side seen at Whaddon Road for quite a while. Scunthorpe could be one of the two sides who may finish below the Stags and keep us in the EFL.

Cheltenham took the lead after 5 minutes with a very soft penalty scored by Reuben Reid after George Hornshaw was deemed to have brought down Elliot Bonds. However Cheltenham made heavy weather of putting Scunthorpe to the sword and Scunthorpe slowly grew into the game and Abu Eisa did have a couple of chances to equalise in the 2nd half. Cheltenham also had to defend a few corners in the 100th minute as they hung on for a win. The reason that the game went on so long was that two young Cheltenham players had to be stretchered off - midfield player, Elliott Bonds (20) (on loan from Bournemouth) and striker, George Lloyd (20). Charlie Raglan also looked like he had taken a knock when he went into a hard challenge. The local commentators said that Cheltenham have not played as well at home this season as last season (W11 D5 L2) but they have still won 2 out of 3 home games. Neil Cox and his assistant, Mark Lillis, had to self isolate and so were not at the game. Scunthorpe should have put the physio in charge. They got promoted to the Championship the last time they did that.

Matty Blair played at right wing back for Cheltenham and had a shot well saved in the 2nd half. Liam Sercombe followed up but his shot was pushed over the bar. Sub, Andy Williams, who came on for Reuben Reid also had a shot saved and then shot wide on the counter attack in injury time. Reuben Reid has a great scoring record for Cheltenham with 8 goals in 11 starts. He was described as being very strong when the ball is played to him with his back to goal but he is not going to run the channels for you.

Chris Clements played in the holding midfield role for Cheltenham. He was just as slow as ever ambling over to take his ineffective corners but he had a decent game and certainly passed the ball a lot quicker and better than James Perch who I thought had his best game for the Stags last night (apart from letting Adam Phillips run straight past him for the goal).

Exeter City 3 Scunthorpe United 1

Two Scunthorpe United players tested positive for COVID-19. Due to coming into close contact with these players, three other members of their squad have also had to self-isolate. Under-23s manager Russ Wilcox is also awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test so goalkeeping coach Paul Musselwhite is in charge of the Irons today (it should have been the physio!!). Manager Neil Cox is having to watch the match remotely due to having to self-isolate after coming into close contact with assistant manager Mark Lillis, who tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the week.

Scunthorpe made six changes to the team that lost to Cheltenham on Tuesday night. They have already used 23 players in 8 league games this season. Mark Howard, Alfie Beestin and Devarn Green made their debuts. Mark Howard signed mid-week as a free agent to replace Rory Watson in goal. He was at Blackpool last season and had a short spell on loan at Salford City.

It was very wet and windy at St James Park but Scunthorpe made a bright start and Aaron Jarvis headed a Miles Hippolyte cross from left narrowly wide of goal after 19 minutes. Mark Howard then saved a Randell Williams header which seemed to catch the wind. Exeter took the lead in the 36th minute with a great passing move involving Josh Kay, Harry Kite (making his debut), Archie Collins and Randell Williams. The latter then played the ball to Matt Jay down the right who crossed for Joel Randall to score at the back post. They then made it 2-0 on 39 minutes when Mark Howard made a Marek Stech style error by dropping Jack Sparkes' cross from the left to the feet of Matt Jay who tapped it into an empty net. HT: 2-0

Scunthorpe made a great start to the 2nd half. Devarn Green shot over the bar and then Jai Rowe (19) making his second league start headed a corner towards goal which Ryan Bowman seemed to put into his own net to make it 2-1. A minute earlier Ryan Bowman should have made it 3-0 with a header from a Randell Williams cross but Mark Howard got a hand to it and Jai Rowe cleared it off the line. Aaron Jarvis had a shot blocked in the area as the Irons pressed for the equaliser and John McAtee got in a great position in the area but seemed to try and cross the ball rather than shooting at goal. Scunthorpe were playing the better football. Jake Taylor came on as a sub for Exeter in the 61st minute which meant that there was a Jake Taylor playing for both sides. Miles Hippolyte had a shot saved in the 85th minute. Exeter continued to go forward though instead of sitting deep and they were rewarded in the 90th minute when Randell Williams played a 1-2 with Josh Key from a throw in and then played the ball through to "the newly married" Jake Taylor running into the area to fire the ball into the far corner. Game over.

Scunthorpe played well and I expect their results to start to improve.

MOM: Randell Williams/Joel Randall/Josh Key (Exeter) and Jai Rowe. John McAtee looks like he can make a player for Scunthorpe as a No 10/attacking midfield player.

Just watching the Quest highlights show. Interesting to see two former Stags in opposing dugouts acting as managers, Adam Barrett (Assistant at Millwall, Rowett has COVID) v Adam Murray (last game as caretaker for Barnsley)

And they played in same promotion winning side.
