How are Southend signing players when they’re in such a financial mess?!

They should be using the money on these signing to pay their tax bill and fill their team with youth players...
These are my opinions , if you don't like them I have others...

See Southend United thread.

The EFL should not be allowing Southend to sign any players until they have paid off the £493k they owe HMRC. It's a recipe for disaster. They had 28 players on Soccerbase before Simeon Akinola and Alan McCormack. 13 are 21 or under but that includes Charlie Kelman. 16 have played fewer than 10 league games which may be the reason that the EFL are allowing them to sign some more experienced players. I think they are only allowed 23 first team players in total like Bolton Wanderers."

Our club keeping us up to date as always, Jason Law appears to be on loan at Grantham Town.

They might not have been paid their correct wages and are going on strike.

Various rumours on Oldham site. One is that Wheater and Woods were still in dispute with club over being furloughed and not receiving full salaries. They had a year left on their contracts. Apparently Wheater had already moved back to North East.

A question for those who keep up with these things, maybe Tippy or Pete.

By not paying their players, are Oldham in breach of league rules in respect of paying their players on time and in full? And by giving them a training routine to follow, are the players actually working? If I am correct, government rules didn’t prevent Leagues 1 and 2 from completing last season as it was curtailed on a vote due to financial reasons.

And finally, if that is the case, did our club also breach the rules or were our players paid?

Dion Donohue pleaded guilty but with the criminal justice system in chaos (and that was before the pandemic!), it will probably take another 12 months for Jacob Mellis' case to be heard and for any sentencing to take place.

Arthur Gnahoua (former Macclesfield player and Stags trialist) has signed for Bolton Wanderers. He played well against the Stags on the right at Moss Rose. He made 26(3) league appearances and scored 4 goals last season.

Bolton have also signed Lloyd Isgrove (27) who made 24(5) league appearances for Swindon Town last season.

Yesterday for me exemplified why we need another senior midfielder bringing in (by senior I mean decent league experience, not necessarily old). It only takes one being out of the reckoning like Perch was yesterday and all of a sudden our options are thread bare, with Smith being our only natural CM on the bench who most would agree isn’t up to it. An injury to any of the midfield 3 yesterday and we’re really struggling for both numbers and quality in that department. We’ve seen first hand over the years that over the course of the season there always tends to be a midfielder unavailable for one reason or another, and when we start to get in the midst of congested fixture list this season more than ever it becomes almost an inevitability.

It’s easy to forget Charsley is very inexperienced as well, must only have around 20 senior appearances to his name at first team level and cannot lean on experience of going deep in to a season when the pressure is on to get 3 points week in week out. He’s going to have bad days, as will all the midfielders, and you look to our bench yesterday and there’s no natural midfielder with enough quality to come on and change the course of the game.

We can point to players who can ‘do a job’ in midfield, like McLaughlin maybe but for me you need natural players in the middle of the park. We would really benefit from one more in there - I’d like to see us address it this week before the window shuts.
