Carlisle United v Southend United (1.00pm Kick Off)

Postby Tippy Tappy Football » Sat Sep 19, 2020 1:05 pm

Watching this early kick off in League 2.

HT: Carlisle United 2 Southend United 0
Possession: 45:55

This is a fairly even game but Carlisle have taken their chances. Terrell Egbri (19) has played well down the right for Southend. Carlisle left back Nick Anderton could have been sent off for two yellow cards but was let off for the first challenge. This game is being played in front of fans and Carlisle fans were groaning early on at misplaced passes (nothing changes!) . Josh Kayode's long throws are a dangerous weapon for Carlisle and centre half, Aaron Hayden, nearly scored with a header from a long throw. Shaun Hobson then headed Gimi Toure's shot over the bar. Carlisle took the lead in the 35th minute when Callum Guy's corner was cleared and Omari Patrick's shot from the edge of the area was deflected past Oxley in the Southend goal. Gimi Toure then went on a great run down the left and he passed inside to Josh Kayode to make it 2-0 to Carlisle in the 39th minute. Egbri and Jordan Green have had a couple of shouts for a penalty for Southend.

Southend have a very young defence and subs bench.

FT: Carlisle United 2 Southend United 0
Attendance: 1,000
Possession: 45:55

Carlisle ran out comfortable winners. They had a couple more chances to score in the 2nd half. Mellish shot over after a good run down the left by Nicky Anderton and centre half, Aaron Hayden, had another header saved from another Josh Kayode long throw. Southend looked like they had a goal in them but the final ball let them down.

MOM: Gimi Toure (Carlisle) and Terrell Egbri (Southend). The other two Carlisle forwards, Omari Patrick and Josh Kayode also had decent games.

Carlisle commentators were saying at the start of the game that Carlisle's main weakness is balls over the top of their defence and players running in behind.
