Winding up petition adjourned. Owner (Akhadi) is planning on selling.

"Further to this morning's court hearing regarding the Winding Up Petition lodged against the Club, we would like to provide the following update relating to it. Due to inaccuracies within the information provided to the court by petitioning creditors, the presiding Judge granted an extension of seven days in order for these to be rectified. In addition to this, Majority Shareholder Amar Alkadhi re-confirmed his intention to conclude the sale of his stake in the Club at the earliest possible opportunity. Mr Alkadhi also assured the court that provisions are in place which could settle the lead petitioner's outstanding debt. We are confident that a successful resolution will be gained in the near future and a further update will be issued in due course."

Sad, but not unexpected.

Feel sorry for the fans of the other MTFC!

Southend may be next. They owe roughly the same and their case will be heard on 28th October.

Something needs to be done.

Sadly a number of clubs will go, those struggling pre Covid will probably be the first.

Really sad for Macclesfield and I feel for the fans, have they sold any season tickets for this year?

They should stop paying bang average players thousands of pounds a week. It’s ridiculous and disgusting and I’ve got no sympathy with clubs who spend beyond their means when they can’t substantiate it (& yes I include us in that too)

This is sad news but the Macclesfield situation has been going on for a year before Covid.

Agreed on Covid though - something needs to be done, but the something can't just be to allow clubs to not pay their debts (e.g. taxes and ex-manager payments, as is reported to be the case with Macclesfield), that just encourages the wrong behaviour.

A lot of these petitions tend to come from HMRC because they aren't getting paid their PAYE and NI. That seems to be the case with Southend too, who owe £500k to HMRC and are asking for time to pay it back - it sounds like they are planning to develop their stadium and move ground to release the money.

You’d think the penny might drop soon. It’s about time footballers were paid what they’re actually worth.

And to think Stanley Mathews was on a fiver a week at Stoke. Bale’s on £600,000, and not half the player!!!

I was in Butlins Bognor in 1994 playing snooker wearing a Stags away shirt. Someone came up asking who i supported. They guessed it was Merthyr Tyd who were high in non league at the time.

This probably means one less team going down from the Conference National League this year then. I wonder if it will mean the sheep stay up.

The problem is that they don't get paid very much at this level; bearing in mind that they are often obliged to retire soon after their 30th birthday, their total career wages aren't that great and their pensions not available for decades. Also they are frequently required to take unpaid leave and are regularly moving house to different areas, making it difficult for their partners to offer support. It's mostly like a time-consuming hobby that gets in the way of your career. Different at the top levels, of course, because there's enough income to save for the future, but most players are rarely or never at that level.

So you think Paul Anderson was worth the £3,750 per week that we were paying him then?!
