You brought the subject up Bobby.

Face facts, it's been garbage since he was let go.

It was garbage for 4 months before he got sacked.

That defence is an absolute shambles.

And a whole season after it's got worse.

Two competative games no goals for and seven conceded.

Look at the other league 2 sides results in this cup competition and the other. We have come out worse than any in both.

If it was against Oldham and Harrogate, I'd be pretty worried but it was against a promotion chasing championship side (who were much fitter than us and had played much more recently than us) and a good youth team who's one player is worth more than our entire squad.

The defending hasn't been great, but we won't be playing against this quality week in and out in league two.

The manager doesn’t seem worried at all judging by his post match comments. He’s really happy with where we’re at.

And what about the other end of the pitch ?

Some scoff at lowly Barrow. They drew at Derby and Blackpool. You could argue they won't meet sides of that quality in league 2.

Chelsea U23's lost at Oxford tonight. They are reigning premier league 2 champions (City finished 9th!)

I'm all for being positive and I think Coughlin will ultimately get it right, but the comments about the quality of tonight opposition are misjudged. We should not be getting beaten comfortably by them and we are right to be concerned about how many goals we are shipping compared to how many we are scoring

Fair to say the defence has had a tough time already. Onto competitive games now.

We've already played 2 competitive games..... And got spanked in both.
Gotta admit I'm a tad worried... Jury still out on coughlan for me.

have to agree, coglan's players and tactics, we'll do well to finish top half

Let’s not forget the standard of the first goal, just like the first goal at preston, 1 long ball then someone not following their runner. Basic, that’s what’s concerning me.

This was why I was against the Flitcroft sacking. He appeared to.have a clear vision for the team and I thought he would build upon the playoff season.

I also made a comment when David Sharpe came in to say that we needed to stand by him should it go wrong with Coughlin.

There needs to be a clear strategy for taking the club forward which we stick to for at least 3 seasons or else it'll be one disaster after another.

Agree with this however I've sat through 95% of coughlans games in charge & interviews and I'm yet to see any clear direction in which he wants to go?! Say what you like about fatty and flitcroft but you could always see the way they wanted there teams set up and the direction they were heading.... To me coughlan is making it up as he goes along at the minute and has no idea of his best 11.

I think given how different and bespoke this pre season has been im going to reserve judgement till after the first 6 or 7 league games.

Although i understand its not hard to feel a little uneasy looking at the results and comparing ourselves to some others.

I think this season is going to be a disaster
I like to think CG knows his game but I think he is not the right manager for this club and the defence has not tightened up at all

You take a lot of pressure off the defence if you put the ball into the net at the other end.

The issue we have is that we can’t score any goals.

To say he is meant to be a defence minded / strong work ethic kinda coach his team is demonstrating none at the moment.

Dan, that's simply not the case. Some of the football played under DF was some of the best I've seen since supporting the Stags way back in the 60s.

I agree that towards the end of his tenure the football was poor. Having said that, since he left we have had a full season and it's continued to be poor.

I'm not advocating we should sack GC, he should be given a fair chance. However, the results and more importantly the performances in the two competative matches so far have been disappointing.

A good dose of pre, season panic on here , The league is what it’s all about and they should be judged after a few games surely .

There has been pressure from certain quarters to promote youth players to the first team . It is of course the ideal scenario for clubs like ours but only if they are good enough . Really surprised Smith is still here after last season though .
Not seen many of the preseason games but certainly work to do all over the pitch . Leaking goals , missing them and of course not providing enough from midfield . Based on our last couple of seasons if we could sign one more player , for me it would be in the middle of the park . An injury to Clarke would drop us right in it . Tomlinson was never the answer anyway .

Ok so using the word disaster is maybe a little dramatic! However I do agree to a certain extent that he has so far been a huge disappointment .Genuine question bellwhiff...what is it in coughlan you have seen so far in his tenure that makes you think he's the right man to take us forward?.
