Cheltenham Town 0 Bristol Rovers 2

Rueben Reid clipped the bar with a shot from the left and Conor Thomas also went close for the Robins. Chris Clements' set pieces were as bad as ever. The Cheltenham commentator was getting excited about a goal he scored from a free kick in the B team trophy two years' ago. The Gas took the lead just before half time when Sam Nicholson found A. Trialist in space in the box and he slotted it past the keeper. HT: 0-1

Reuben Reid had a shot saved after good work by Alfie May. Rovers were the better side though and Jayden Mitchell Lawson was brought down in the area by Ben Tozer and Luke Leahy scored the penalty.

Elliott Bonds looked quite good for Cheltenham, a 20 year old midfield player on loan from Hull City.

Huddersfield Town 2 Bradford City 1

Bradford played a strong Huddersfield team in the 1st half and apparently it could have been 4-4 at half time. Dylan Motley-Henry gave Bradford the lead and Karlan Grant equalised for Huddersfield with a shot from the edge of the area.

Huddersfield brought their young lads on in the 2nd half. I watched the last 40 minutes and they were excellent. They outplayed Bradford and Matty Daly scored the winner with a left foot strike after Josh Austerfield had won the ball back well. Some of these young Terriers will be worth checking out as loan players by League 2 and National League clubs.

Romoney Crichlow-Noble (21) - left sided central defender
Matty Daly (19) - attacking midfield player
Brahima Diarra (17) - attacking midfield player
Josh Austerfield (18) - holding midfield player
Jaheim Headley (18) - left back

Bradford City
Richard O'Donnell
Anthony O'Connor, Paudie O'Connor, Reece Staunton
Connor Wood, Elliott Watt, Harry Pritchard (Billy Clarke), Dylan Mottley-Henry (Zeli Ismail)
Callum Cooke
Kurtis Guthrie (Clayton Donaldson), Lee Novak.

Huddersfield (1st Half): Ben Hamer; Jaden Brown, Harry Toffolo, Richard Stearman, Demeaco Duhaney; Josh Austerfield, Alex Pritchard (c), Juninho Bacuna; Karlan Grant, Danny Ward (Steve Mounié, 31’), Josh Koroma

Huddersfield (2nd Half): Jacob Chapman; Jaheim Headley, Romoney Crichlow, Mustapha Olagunju, Aaron Rowe; Josh Austerfield, Brahima Diarra, Ben Jackson; Matty Daly, Steve Mounié (Kian Harratt, 77’), Micah Obiero

Vale beat Forest 2-1 yesterday. No lineups given but from the players mentioned it sounded like quite a strong side put out by Forest (Blackett, Taylor, Ameobi, Yates)

They don't mess about in the Bolton News. They have already done a pre-season report on all the players. No surprise that Baptiste has already picked up a minor injury.

I really don’t rate that Bolton team on paper, only Sarcevic and Doyle who would Possibly get in our team.

If only the Chad demonstrated this level of interest in the Stags.

Nathan Delfouneso is a quality player. Liam "Flash" Gordon who they signed from the Daggers is quick.

Nathan Delfouneso won promotion from League 2 with Blackpool and has been a regular starter for them for the last three seasons. I'm looking forward to watching a few of their games when the season kicks off to see how they look. I would not be confident with a defence that includes both George Taft and Gethin Jones. The latter is a bit like Kellan Gordon. He's better at going forward than defending. He had a nightmare at Oldham that in hindsight cost us promotion.

If I were a bookie I would be setting up a branch in Bolton and taking money off Bolton fans at 5/1 or 11/2 for the title.

Ian Evatt is looking to make another four signings this week.

Are there any pre-season friendlies with early kick offs today for a bit of warm up viewing before the Stags?

Gethin Jones is definitely not better attacking than defending.

He’s steady enough at RB - which he proved at Carlisle, but he’s not a wing back as we know from his time here. He does not have the pace or positioning to implement the attacking job you get with the RWB position.

Gethin Jones is playing wing back at Bolton and did not impress me with his defending for the Stags. I agreed with David Artell and Graham Westley in their podcasts where they both said that lads in academy and U21 football do not get taught how to defend properly.

Yes Bolton will find out he’s not suited to RWB soon.

He may have not impressed you defending, but he’s still better at that than attacking, he did a good job for Carlisle at RB, maybe you missed that. I think he’s a average L2 player and probably not good enough for a team like Bolton.

Unsure on Taft, but neither would get in our side.

Thanks Sam.

Watching Plymouth Argyle v Forest Green Rovers on You Tube. Kelland Watts is playing on the left hand side of a back three for Plymouth. Game has been played at a good tempo but not many chances. Aaron Collins should have scored for FGR when a ball was played over the top. He got to the ball before the Plymouth keeper but his shot rolled wide of the far post. Ryan Hardie then gave Plymouth the lead running on to Frank Nouble's through ball down the right and cutting inside Udoka Godwin-Malife before firing past the keeper.

Jordan Moore Taylor still looks a good player at the back for FGR. Ebou Adams seems to be the attacking midfield player for them with Carl Winchester and Dan Sweeney behind him.

FGR
Luke McGhee
Kane Wilson, Udoka Godwin-Malife, Jordan Moore Taylor, Chris Stokes
Carl Winchester, Dan Sweeney,
Aaron Collins, Ebou Adams, Nicky Cadden
Jamille Matt

HT: 1-0 to Plymouth.
