Steven Blakeley (PC Geoff Younger) is from Bolsover though no idea if he is a Stag or an inbred sheep botherer.
He's not a football fan. Lives at Scarcliffe.

Wasn't he related to Paul Mathew's?

Well if true that's totally ridiculous. The last thing we needed to do was give him a run. Who the hell was coaching?. We should have been checking his ball control, tackling ability and passing.

It is true, Andy King put him on the first team bench for a game at Walsall, I was there around 1996 at a guess.

I believe he was used as a fitness coach, and I've got a feeling that in the pre 'got to have a licence to fart' days, he was pretty well qualified for the role.
Olympic Decathlon Champion x2
World Decathlon Champion
European Decathlon Champion x2
Commonwealth Decathlon Champion x3
World Decathlon Record Holder x3
P.S. It was also a pretty good publicity stunt/profile raiser for the club.

I watched him play (& score) in the reserves one night. There were about 500 there mostly to see Daley Thompson.
He could run fast & he took his goal well, but as a footballer, he was an excellent decathlete. Still not even close to being in the top 10 worst players I've seen play for Stags.

Vice President wrote:Bill Maynard (as opposed to Nicky - very different athlecticism there ) was indeed spotted at a game against Bolton in the late 70's.
The reason ... he was a big fan of Frank Worthington (who was playing for Bolton).
We can't claim Bill Maynard as a Stags fan.

Dunno why but I thought it was Ray Clarke

It was Ray Clarke, Belly.
Sat near Bill Maynard in the West Stand at quite a few home matches way back then. Not sure of his connection with Clarkey but he did come to watch him specifically and got very excited and animated when he scored. He came with a group others and was a really friendly bloke to chat with.
