In comparison to players we have had in the past who you only had to take one look at, and come to the conclusion that they would easily go on to play at a higher level, CJ doesn't come anywhere near to any of them in my opinion.

40+ games with 3 goals and 3 assists last season, statistically proves that we've done well to get some money for him. All well and good banging on about he could do this or do that etc, when simply he's not a kid anymore with a huge amount of time to develop further. If he isn't doing it by now, I don't think he ever will do.

He has pace and that's his main assett. As advantageous as his pace is, every rapid player is one hamstring tear, dodgy knee, or achilles injury away from being completely shot if they have nothing else to offer in their locker. As harsh as it seemed, Hayden White was never at his orginal best when he came back which I think the management thought too, hence why the gamble to retain him wasn't taken.

Players mentioned in comparison to him i.e. your Corden's and your Lawrence's had nowhere near the amount of rapid pace, yet their stats elsewhere were leagues apart.

Great deal for me, and we can get much, much better given the amount of choice that there's going to be with our financial position.

I'll wait to see his replacement but this has given my confidence in both promotion and style of play quite a knock. CJ never stopped running and was the one player who I thought had the stamina to play the pressing game all day long and still come back for more. I just hope we are more than a hard hitting, set piece specialist team next season.
I'm disappointed too. As I was when Clucas was sold for next to nothing. Added to the fact we will also be without Khan, Pearce, White and more than likely Maynard.
I suppose we will have to wait and see who GC brings in.

On a plus side Bristol Rovers have recently signed a winger from Colorado Rapids, so probably there cast off incoming ??

Very disappointing to lose of one our best attacking players for only £200,000-£300,000. I hope we have a big sell on clause.

I agree with Kenwood. I think CJ with some good coaching could become a Championship level left wing back. It was very disappointing how he seemed to go backwards under JD at the start of last season and could not even get a regular spot in the team. There were also stories from some players that JD was being too soft on him and letting him off early from training so he could travel to see his girlfriend in London.

The proof will be in the pudding as to whether GC can produce a team this season that is good enough to challenge for promotion. If he manages to do this then his decisions on players will be fully justified.

Same. Summed it up above.
Take his pace away with a swift kick or two and he's like playing with 10 men.

As a stand alone piece of business it looks a good deal. I do feel though that the team will be weaker without him, unless of course we are going to bring in a brilliant and better replacement. If you look at the deal in the context of the business we have already done, it seems we have strengthened some areas but weakened another so overall the team may be little stronger than last term or certainly the term before.

Teams who gain promotion are normally strong across the pitch but this makes an already threadbare left side even weaker in my opinion. Benning and Sweeney are solid but that's it really so no left midfield or forward line to attack from both flanks.

I hope I'm wrong and we really do have someone lined up.

Need to have some quality signings lined up, at the moment we’re not really in any better shape than last season. Still plenty of time of course.

We'll probably waste the money on a 2 year contract for a "name" dropping down the leagues looking for a last good pay day who then picks up a serious injury early in the season. :(

Hopefully David Sharpe makes sure we carry out proper medicals.

Play CJ in the right position in the right formation he is frightening for any opposition defence.
Flitcroft knew where and how to play him and was devastating, for sure he had is off days but doesn't everyone.
It has become the expectation of football fans that players should 'play out of their skin' every time they play, then there are certain Stags fans who expect even more.
Good luck CJ, always a favourite of mine, no doubt your knockers on here chant 'Danny Rose, Danny Rose' regardless of how he plays and whether he's even playing.

Very disappointed, I know the club are doing the "he wouldn't sign a deal" line, but who's to say GC didn't go to the owners and say He's not part of my plans? One of the most exciting players at the Stags recently, pace to burn and had sorted out his tracking back and defending as well, for someone who seems to like hard working pressing players, it seems an odd decision by GC. I hope he proves me wrong next season, but there's no-one that excites me in the team at the moment. I too hope we have a BIG sell on, because if he hits the ground running at Blackpool, they could be selling him by Christmas for a whole lot more! I wish him all the best, a player that came on in leaps and bounds and I'll never forget his goal at Newport in the play off semi!

So if we sign Mclaughlin from Southend, I see his record is 19 goals in 152 appearances, is that any better than CJ's, no, so we replace a 25yo with a 30yo? Maybe it wont be Mclaughlin, we will have to wait and see.

If it is £300k , this is a massive amount of money at league 2 level in these COVID times.

Players values will at least be halved during the summer

Agreed it's a good fee in today's terms BUT it's chicken feed if it costs you promotion even if the player leaves at the end of the season.

Sounds to me they are already thinking of selling on for a big profit.

Their Wages are the same are they?
I'm sure we were told that we'd be signing young hungry players, with Bostwick and Mclaughlin being rumoured, that doesn't look to be the case does it?

Chuck in Bowery and Clarke at 28 + as well.

Not really seeing the vision I thought I’d be seeing......Still plenty of time though so no need to panic.

It’s probably cause for concern when we finish 21st in the league, and then get rid of all our best players - CJ, Pearce, White, Maynard probably won’t be back too. We still need to bring in a lot of quality if we want to be challenging in the top half/top 7 next season. Pace, creativity and flair needed sharpish.
