Northampton were very fortunate having lost 5 out of their last 7 before lockdown. Having watched them against us there is no doubt in my mind that they would of fell out of the play offs.
Fair play to Curle though, you could tell it meant a lot to him to get his first promotion.

Paul Anderson did not come across to me as a wrong 'un and his crime was said to be suggesting to Flitcroft that he stick with Evans/Raynor's tactics in the last 12 games of the season in 2017-2018. He was right!
Flitcroft made a terrible mess of those last 12 games and not only blew automatic promotion but the play offs as well.
If Flitcroft had kept Anderson in the squad in 2018-2019 then he might have done a better job than Jorge Grant or not had to play Alex MacDonald as a right wing back at Franchise FC. Who knows? Your squad players do become very important towards the end of the season and do give the manager a few more options. It's a good man management skill to try and keep players on board even though they may not be in the first team just in case you need them.
Lots of other football managers are guilty of bombing players out including Paul Cox and Keith Curle.
Sorry, was Anderson a coach or a player? He should’ve kept his nose out and focussed on his contribution on the pitch instead.
Jorge Grant did more in those four/five goos games he had than Anderson did in 25.

I agree. We normally have a good weekend in Exeter wheres Northampton is a soulless new stadium with poor parking this year. Anyway they'll be straight back down

Jorge Grant was another waste of money. We did not need him and DF had to play Jacob Mellis deeper to accomodate him. He went missing in action when the going got tough.

Nicky Adams is one of the best crossers in the lower leagues, if not the best. Was interesting to see the stat that he has more assists this season than any other player other than Kevin de Bruyne.
Most assists: TOP FOUR TIERS 2019/20 (13th June)
17 - Kevin De Bruyne
15 - Randell Williams14 - Charlie Kirk14 - Liam Feeney
12 - Nicky Adams12 - Scott Fraser
12 - Trent Alexander-Arnold
12 - Matheus Pereira
12 - Niclas Eliasson
11 - George CooperMost chances created: TOP FOUR TIER 2019/20
54 - Kevin De Bruyne
48 - Randell Williams48 - Matheus Pereira
47 - Jordan Clark
47 - Trent Alexander-Arnold
45 - Jack Harrison
44 - Nicky Adams43 - Mohamed Salah
41 - Barry Bannan
41 - Jarrod Bowen
Randell Williams will probably have League 1 clubs after him although he did not play well yesterday and annoyed me by hanging on to the ball and not crossing it.

BBC conveniently getting it's facts wrong...
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53229906"The closest he (curle) had come (to promotion as a manager) was three years ago when Exeter knocked out Carlisle with a late winner in their League Two play-off semi-final second leg."
Hmmm... That penalty shootout in the final in 04 didn't happen then?
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

I'm sure they put the Adams stat up on the screen during the Sky coverage. As we know, different groups record these things differently.

You are misreading it slightly. The sentence before that says he had never taken a team to a Wembley play off final.
Technically they are correct, but only because Wembley was closed in 2004 !!

They've done well, from nearly getting relegated to league one play offs and to keep the same manager in place too. they don't have a massive budget either

We kept them up didn't we? Last game of the season.
Ainsworth has done well and shown what sticking with the right manager does. Only seen Wycombe play once but I imagine a GC side will be similar.

I suppose it must be great to be late to the party of the playoffs and win like that rather than be ridiculously clear of them and someone achieve the impossible and fall into them and then lose.
Some see being in them as a bonus and others don’t.
Ah if only football was so simple.

Two big ugly teams who capitalise on set pieces winning both play-offs so far.

And who says direct football can't be successful?
Congratulations to both Wycombe and Northampton, don't think many would've put money on those two being promoted but fair play. Both very effective at what they do

Tbf. Tiny budget. Defence and keeper all free transfers. Kept a manager for a decent amount of time. Favourites for relegation. Great team ethic. Stags saved em. Championship team! They deserve it.
Sunderland have a massive budget and were nowhere near them.
Shows what a decent manager whose given time and great team spirit achieves.

With the spirit and drive they have I wouldn't write them off just yet, won't have a huge transfer budget at all but they've managed to get there in the first place. It'll be tough for them, but I wish that was us going up to the championship

You never know. Many thought Bournemouth wouldn’t last in the premier league but have for a few seasons. I wish we had one more season in the championship. We’d probably do an Oxford and mess it up!!!

Why one season. I can't imagine they will go up again so fast.
Might take them a few years like Bournemouth but if you are that confident of them going up again I would put a bet on.
You will get good odds.

One season, maybe, but good luck to them.
Do you actually believe we would fair any better?
I was around when we went up to the then Div 2, we were a good team, had some good results but just could not compete financially, same would apply now.
Our ambition should be to have that "one season of glory" .
