Sounds like mis communication, she wished him best on the back of the picture with the Plymouth coach, after this he commented to set the record straight.

Well done to the lad for keeping his fitness levels up.

I hope the rest are doing it, especially after the last pre season debacle.

The fake twitter account is claiming we didn’t offer Maynard a new deal.

*edited given club did not explicitly state a new deal offered*

Do you not think their just taking that from Maynard saying “no formal offers” though?

I assumed Maynard meant, no offers other then Mansfield’s?

Carolyn wishing him well clearly indicates he hasn’t accepted our offer if we made one.
Not sure it adds much clarity although I don’t take and reassurance from that.

It would not surprise me at all if we hadn’t heard from Nicky and Carolyn took the Plymouth coach photo as him leaving, therefore wishing him the best.

Unprofessional? Yes.

Carolyn liking comments about Doyle again. Don’t know whether that means there’s still a genuine chance of us getting him despite reports that he’s not interested, or whether she’s just liking it without thinking about it

The twitter account @transfernewsefl has sent me a screenshot conversation from Maynard with a fan in which he states he wasn’t offered a new deal.

I’ve had a look back at the retained list and the club said ‘negotiations were underway’ with Maynard. So they don’t explicitly state a new deal was offered.

Correct, but I doubt they have faked the screenshot.

Maynard says no official offers made, may be asking for too much wages in these troubled times.

If he needs an income, similarly for other players out there, the wage requirements will diminish with time I. E at the end of June when contracts end.

My take is that we have discussed a deal, found out what he wanted, told him what's on offer and the two weren't close enough. That means we've been in talks (as the club said) but no formal offer made (were too far apart and as the player said). Cazza wishing him all the best fits in with that theory as she assumes he'll now go else where. If we have left a verbal offer out there her comment also adds a bit of pressure as she's seemingly accepted hes gone. If he's not getting good offers elsewhere it might make him think again about ours or at least accept we aren't going to improve our offer if that's what he was hoping for.

I reckon unless he fails to land a decent deal somewhere else, which he won't, then he's gone. A shame but not the end of the world.

All the best lad.

Maynard was the real difference between us and Stevenage last season.

I know this is a pretty rudimentary way of doing it as it doesn’t weigh up his contribution in other areas or mean that another player might have scored the goals, or that the game may have gone differently, but simply taking away Maynards goals and how they effected the results means we would’ve had 6 less points. We would still have finished 21st on that basis, with 10 more points than Stevenage.

As I was saying through the latter part of the season when I kept telling people that we would not be relegated, I don’t think people realise how terrible Stevenage were. They were on track for 28 points, the second lowest points talks since League Two was formed 16 years ago. That means we were safe from the 1st Feb onwards.

It will be controversial to some but here goes.
First of all I accept his goals helped us avoid be lower in the table but the number of excellent chances he missed would have propelled us higher up.

Similar situation with Logan, had it not been for the numerous excellent saves he made, we would have been down there with Stevenage but he made one or two mistakes which prevented us from moving upwards.

Last season is a right off, end of.

As with any players, any employee, anybody in fact - as my old boss used to say to me; "there are plenty of indispensable people in the cemetery". In other words life will continue and someone else will step up to the plate.

I know Doyle had a incredible season but I don’t think there’s a better striker than Maynard in L2, he’s not just a goal scorer either.

I absolutely hate the ‘the chances missed’ argument, this is L2 after all.
