Joe Riley looked more suited as a full back not a wing back tbh, according to DS the GC will be playing 3 at the back so unsure if Joe will start

I like the fact he’s only been given a one year deal. Keeps him hungry and if his injury issues return he can be moved out.

Watched him in 5 games, 4 solid performances and one sub-standard in a poor team showing at Oldham.
Deserves another year in my opinion.

6 games, 2 of each result, but we were winning against Morecambe before we ended up drawing after he was subbed. 1 clean sheet (2 if you count his contribution at Morecambe). One goal, one assist.

Agree that he deserved another look, but as we already have Clarke as a younger option, and unless Clarke is going to go out on loan, I was hoping for more of an upgrade.

It all depends on what the pecking order on the right is and who is coming in in other positions. He is dependable, had some good games in a poor team and his injuries seem to be behind him. We also have the spectre of a wage cap and that may have been a factor in his signing.
Seems sensible re-signing a known entity

You need solid players like Riley, happy with this personally.

We've had the big names in the lower leagues and many have been deceiving and not living up to their name. Joe was steady last season in a pretty rubbish team, I think he'll be a good squad player. He could be brilliant when we've got a full team of players buying into GC and JD's philosophy and game plan.

Barely batted an eyelid at this, pretty uninspiring in my opinion.

His physical attributes don’t lend themselves to playing a wing back role and from Sharpes interview it sounds like we’ll be sticking with that system. Honestly don’t think he will offer us enough going forward down the right hand side but we will see. Quite injury prone too throughout his career, so again, it’s a shame that we let the better of two ‘injury prone’ right backs go.

I suppose Kellan Gordon is an option for that role but Coughlan hasn’t even seen him play yet.

Forgot about Gordon. I would think that definitely means Clarke will be out on loan.

In the games I've seen of Gordon, Riley and Clarke I'd pick Clarke

Yes agree not one of the players that sets me alight for the season ahead but maybe the budget is being culled a bit

Gordon was doing well until his Injury flared up, don't forget, in hindsight it was stated he should have been rested much earlier than he was, not doing so inflicted greater injury to the lad.

I look forward to seeing him wide on the right.

Gordon definitely seems like somebody who would do better out wide in midfield.

My thoughts exactly, especially when White's injury came from the result of a bad tackle that broke his leg. What he did performance-wise before that both as right back and some excellent performances at centre half, deserved some loyalty to prove his fitness again in my opinion.

Reality is no one knows the rationale for the decision to let White go. Could have been medical, financial or both.
I think Jamie Clarke is definitely one for the future. Was really impressed with the young man when he played last year

I think its part of a club restructuring... all that were out of contract, had been here two seasons or more or above a certain age were let go to start a fresh. Imagine most of those were on hefty inflated wages.

It's also no good having players who were signed 3 managers a go imo. White was decent for us, but it needed freshening up. We need players with a clear head who didn't have 2 years of promotion bottles and a relegation dogfight taking place in their last three seasons at the club.

From my limited watches of Clarke, he looks a prospect mate. I like Gordon too.
