Be honest, the new West Stand will never be a patch on the old one. Am I being nostalgic, tinged with the emotions towards Haslam and how he vandalised ‘our ground’, especially my childhood memories or am I spot on? This is not based upon the facilities which are far and away better in the new stand.

Drive along St. Peter’s Way towards the ground and the roof of the Old West Stand would loom large into view, a statement of what opposition teams had to face. The new one just is not as imposing. Shame really.

Wow.. Look how tidy the bishop St looks.
Your right spartacus the old West Stand was very imposing on the Mansfield skyline,
Cardiff City fans used to call it the hulk of the titanic!

Loved the pictures, thanks. Shows how basic grounds used to be with the terraces and just a few barriers on them. Have good memories as a kid standing on the right hand side of the West Stand nearest the away fans (where they used to be) with the smell of beer and pipe tobacco that came in strong at about ten to 3, and also for a period standing in the Bishop Street (with all the old blokes in the seats sitting behind continually moaning about the team).

I agree completely. The original plan was to redevelop the West Stand, keeping the roof and modernising it throughout - I think that would have been much better with two new ends and a small new Bishop St. Never mind, our ground is tidy enough now, a shame about the Bishop which lets it down badly.

I even think the new stands look worn and tired looking especially from the outside.

I forgot how impressive the old North Stand was great memories in there !
I’m glad the new West Stand is a cantilever stand it still dominates the sky line if not quite as much as the old one .

Massive mistake moving the tunnel, changing rooms, offices etc to Quarry Lane, makes the stadium feel disconnected. Can’t beat teams emerging from a tunnel on the halfway line imo.

What was that tall chimney behind the bishop st. stand? I don't think it is there anymore - just wondered what it belonged to?

The stadium is slightly better than it was, but it has lost some character (especially the West stand).

Of course a quarter of the stadium is now far worse than it was. (We know which stand I'm referring to ;)

I think the far chimney is the old one at the old Mansfield General Hospital, now knocked down. The near one is the whiteley factory chimney on Victoria Street.

I thought it was on the old Whitely Radio site on Victoria Street. I think it may have been destroyed/demolished following a fire at Pyramid Products who took the site over. That is only from memory so I'm probably a million miles off.

I remember hurdling those barriers Onto the pitch every time we scored in the late 70s or you got crushed . The north stand bogs had more standing water than quarry lane damn tip toes only .. Give us back our stand !!
